Oak Ridge Boys ~ Elvira You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

No I don't. I've been looking in thrift stores, but can't find one I'm willing to pay for. I refuse to pay $50 for an 8-track player. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

My grandmother still has one of those long stereos. It has an 8-track recorder on it. It still plays tapes but I don't think it can record now though. Which Oak Ridge Boy got kicked out of the group?

William Golden, the one with the long beard. But he's back with them now. He's behind Mike in this pic.

This is from when country was still c.o.u.n.t.r.y.
My mother LOVES country music. It used to embarrass the crap out of me that she was like the only black person in America to attend the annual Jamboree in the Hills. She had the boots, the cowgirl hat, the fringe vest, the whole nine yards.
In retrospect... well... yeah, it's still embarrassing. But I'm glad she exposed me to the country classics. It made my world bigger, and there was a lot of soul in that music. [Edited 12/16/10 20:33pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

1980-82 was a transitional period for the American music industry. Just less than a year after disco "died", country started to crossover to Top 40 radio. The Oak Ridge Boys were one of those country acts.

I haven't heard this song since it probably went off mainstream radio...and I still remembered the damned chorus.

I don't believe in "taste" (whatever that means) because I'm not a fuddy duddy music snob.
