BTW, I don't believe I've ever heard him speak, lol.

I think that was his decision to stay quiet lol he's gotten vocal lately though lol

All I know is if that man were looking at me, I don't believe I'd be able to turn away, lol.

I remember he used to wear dark sunglasses a lot.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

nod yep, back in 1977,this song was massive.

REMEMBER?!? OMG! That song was being referenced EVERYWHERE! It was like; you couldn't get through an entire day without someone on TV, the radio, or in newspapers or magazines, talking about Debbie Boone and "You Light Up My Life". And the even funnier thing was: this was not all that of an unusual type of song for the radio to play back in those days. There were no Hip-Hop stations (Hell, there was no HIP-HOP, lol), RAP (...as we know it today) had not been invented yet, and very few (like ONE per city - if that) that even played much SOUL music consistently. And if you wanted to hear FUNK, your ass had better go out and buy the record, lol. Soft Rock and Light Country music ruled the airwaves, lol.

And yet strangely... I miss those days, lol.

PDogz & Soul are right. It was a fun time. You never quite knew what the jocks on the airwaves were gonna do. Far from the pablum radio churns out today.

I have ripped an un-scoped air-check (45 mins) from the #1 primetime pop station here in Portland, 1978. The jock is amazing...but what really gets me when I listen to it is what a time machine it is. All the ads (for discos, record stores....and "winner sticker" cash giveaways, etc). It's just like it's 1978 all over again.

Check the playlist tho.......all over the ROAD...just as a "snapshot" of the era...

That's one of the things I miss most about radio from back in the day, you were never quite sure what they were gonna play, or when. And the listening audience seemed to have a greater tolerance for different types of music. Seemed like the Disc Jockey's had more creative freedom back then too, sometimes even bringing vinyl from home to play on the air. And I used to love how some stations after midnight would have "Album Hour", where they would play both sides of an entire album by an artist - WITHOUT COMMERCIAL INTERUPTION (cue the cassette recorder, lol. We used to hold it up to the speakers, and everybody in the room had to be quiet, lol) So many artists today don't even create entire albums worth of music that you'd want to listen to from start to finish. Then, they would not only play the music, but tell you a little about it, give you a little history, TEACH you something.

They'd NEVER do that today, everything is already pre-programed.

Why has society made me feel embarrassed to admit "You Light Up My Life" is one of my favorite 70's Pop songs??? mad lol Sure, it may be a little sappy but I'll take 'sappy' over 'crappy', which is mostly what we get now.

It's actually a good song, not that I have any real desire to listen to it. But compared to any other sappy ballad it's good.

^^ No I haven't, tell me.

This song does give me the creeps though. I loved how people took it as a love song, then Debbie said it was about Jesus or something. lol

I know why she became a one-hit wonder: they played the song too fucking much. lol

It's a lot better than Jesus Take the Wheel lol

But you are right, I think if it was not such a huge hit (or maybe if her name was not "Boone" hmmm ) people would not hate it so much.

To me it's like I Will Always Love You. A good song, but I might hang myself if I ever hear it again.

Without a doubt, you hit the nail on the head. So many of my favorite albums were recorded between 1976 and 1978. By 1979, culture in general seemed to be getting anxious about the 80's, lol. omfg

I think the thing to note here is that the song is a well written tune. Like the execution or not, you can't hate on the songwriter or lyricist. Today, we don't even have solid songwriting to save us.

I don't "HATE" this song, just got way tired of it, lol. But the entire "Girl You Know It's True" album is one of my all time favorites, lol. I love every song on that album, lol. I always felt that when Rob and Fab were exposed, that they should have given the Grammy to the ACTUAL people that sang on it. As I saw it, they could have continued making albums and touring. They should have let Rob and Fab stay on as the backup dancers, and brought the ACTUAL singers out front and center. I loved the music of Milli Vanilli, it was part of the soundtrack of a very special time of my life.

I agree that since they won a Grammy they should have given it to the actual singers/writers once the scandal broke. It made the Grammys look really bad IMO to second guess their own decision when they supposedly gave an award to the music.

But I am the opposite, I hated them even before they were exposed! lol

Ahh, there it is right there!

The thing about it for me though was I was never really paying THAT much attention to Rob & Fab to begin with, even though they were the face of Milli Vanilli. For me, it was about that music. How could you not LOVE "I'm Gonna Miss You", or "Blame It On The Rain"? But then again, you were only 5 and I was already WELL into my 20's (...VERY well into, lol). So the songs for me were tied to the relationships and good times I was experiencing in those days.

But still... disbelief Dayum Timmy!
