So THAT'S why he's "mentoring" a young girly boy... hmmm Usher just needs to be Usher....ain't no pressure. He actually has more than enough talent and has been in the industry for a long time on his own worth that he should squash this bullshit. So should Neyo and Chris Brown and Justin Timberlake. Be yourself!

Lawd, the only damn sense you'll hear when someone makes a statement as silly as Ur-shers is what you just posted right here.

I know my trapper keeper is showing here but Bieber said Timberlake and Usher were both interested, so it could be extended MJ-related image branding (for Timberlake as well). Of course I'm not reading this as a dis on MJ.

December 2010

Usher has revealed that he feels under pressure to become the new Michael Jackson.

The singer who signed his first record deal at age 13, said that despite being "emotionally" torn apart he enjoys being compared to the late singer.

"You know, we lost Michael Jackson. A lot of pressure is on me and I don't mind taking it," he told the Daily Star.

"I wanted to make sure that you get that type of experience that leaves you saying, 'OMG'. The impression that I would like to leave is that this guy is really stepping it up to a level where people can hopefully compare me to people like Michael Jackson. I basically tear myself apart emotionally, energetically, connecting with you and making sure that you enjoy this moment."

The R&B superstar recently confessed that he cried over protégé Justin Bieber's American Music Award wins.

I think Usher said that, as motivation for himself. He has not released an album's worth of GOOD material since, "Confessions", and that was based on a lie or Jermaine's story, whoever you believe. Everything else, was str8 up, "hot buttered booty". As for him working with Beiber, I think it's his way of breaking into the "Pop/white" market, without actually doing it himself. He needs to go back to and work with Jermaine again. Maybe this time, I will spend my money on Usher.

It's a shame that so many of today's artists are nothing more than lame copycats.Instead of trying to be "the next Michael Jackson",why doesn't Usher aim to be a unique,one-of-a-kind performer with his own fresh ideas? rolleyes Legendary artists cannot be duplicated. There will never be another Michael Jackson.

I will substitute the term "The Next Michael Jackson" with "The Next Hugely Talented Globally Famous Entertainer", and say that that person will be someone who comes up with their own unique twist... and makes it spectacular! We'll also need to be aware of their talent from a fairly young age, so I don't feel that this current crop of wannabe's has a shot at being THAT ONE. I don't believe the next mega-famous entertainer will come from trying to duplicate Michael Jackson, and any person that attempts to do so will fall woefully short.

Chris Brown shot himself in the dick way too early in his career, and Usher & Ne-Yo have made it all too clear that they WANT to be Michael Jackson, and the world will never accept a MJ substitute.

I don't understand why these entertainers don't understand this... If they were regular fans and not performers, that would never say someone can walk in MJ's shoes... never!

But Usher, who's pressuring you to be the new Michael, boo? No one's really looking for an MJ replacement. I know i'm not. There's only one MJ and there will only ever be one MJ.

Usher just needs to be the best artist he can be. Trying to be the next MJ or the next anyone is bound to fail.

This was my favorite look for Michael. It's so sad that he felt so "ugly" at this stage of his life. May he be resting peacefully.

Please, Usher has his own style of dancing (This is not true. He does every move MJ has ever done), he's influenced by Mike, like Mike himself was influenced by James Brown (Don't compare MJ's influences to Usher's. Two different people. One is TRYING to be the next MJ. While MJ was just MJ but also paid homage to the greats before him.) .... Same goes for Chris Brown (I'd say Chris Brown is less MJ-esque than Usher and NeYo.), Im not saying one is better than the other but I honestly would rather dance like Usher than MJ. (Then you must be into watered down versions of things. Do you like store brand items too? lol)

Now on the vocal side I agree with you, Usher is a verry good studio singer (I don't think Usher is a good studio singer. He always sounds way too processed.) but live, naaawww he needs to work on that. (He also needs to seek help. Dude is going through an identity crisis.)

[Edited 12/13/10 9:59am]

Let's take it there.

You're tripping man, I don't remember MJ breakdancing ... You don't like Usher ok, I have no problem with that, but dude has his own style, I mean just go on youtube and watch Pop Ya Collar, U Remind Me, U Got It Bad, Let It Burn and tell me it looks like Mike.

Do I like store brand items ? Yes, when they're good I don't care ... but honestly, you see youreself moving like MJ in a club ? Usher looks like a regular dude who can dance, MJ looks like a dancine machine.

I agree with the identity crisis part, I pmean look at this post, but in studio I like his voice.
