Is this the new thing now? Quincy Jones also has headphones for sale.

If I were in the market for a pair of headphones today, I would compare the stats (mainly, the frequency response - and how much power they're capable of handling accurately), of the models I was interested in. I wouldn't care much about which celebrity was pushing them, and would be more interested in how accurately they reproduced sound.

Though I feel Dr. Dre makes a strong spokesperson for any sound related product. Nevertheless, about the only thing I would purchase from RadioShack would be cables, or maybe... MAYBE batteries.

Why shouldn't someone spend money on headphones if they want to enhance the quality of the music they listen to?

I have to question your passion for music if you don't understand why someone would pay good money for something like this.

because the mp3/digital and even CD is already a Huge loss in what you are going to hear, so unless everything you are going to listen to is on vinyl, than go for it, but about 1% of new releases or old stuff is still available on vinyl at this point. The conversion to digital, and even to cd was loss in quality that was determined about 25 years ago, and its gotten worse, the files you get from iTunes are dreadful for hearing "a band". My passion for music is beyond a pair of headphones and rests more in the artistry, the sound now has already been degraded so much that these headphone deals are nothing more than the way ipods are put out, every month or so there is a new one to take your money etc...

I would have to disagree with you, I want to hear my music with the right balance in bass & treble the standard headphones that come with most portable players/ipods etc have imo awfull sound.

So for me to get the right sound that will make me appreciate what im listening to I need to invest in a decent pair of headphones. If the sound on headphones are flat or light then as far as im concerned they are not fit for purpose.

I bought a pair of jbl headphones a few years back, spent about $160 on them but the sound was spot on & they lasted me a good 2 or 3 years

I have just bought these new ibeats and the sound quality betweent these headphones & the standard ones you get with the iphone . . . well there just is no comparison.

The Beats by Dre over ears are actually great headphones. Studio quality even. I listened through them for a couple hours and I was very much impressed. Their frequency range and db levels are quite impressive. Plus, they actually put bass on your head/in your ears at lower volume levels. And the price is not that outrageous. There are many others priced comparably, and higher. But I totally agree that you can get a great pair of headphones for much less. Depends on what the sale price was, I suppose.

This what I was listening through, the $300 pair. I didn't even know they were making any that cost less than this. They have the specs on the page...

Regardless of the quality of the audio, it will still sound great in comparison to cheap headphones.

If you have no experience with high-end heaphones you shouldn't be so judgemental about them.

+I'm sure the Studios sound great, but for roughly the same price you can find better much better quality than the Solos

If you have never owned an expensive pair of headphones it probably won't make a difference, you will love them.

It's funny that now that people have finally cottoned on to getting decent headphones to listen to their music, the source itself is generally worse than ever before.

The vast majority are listening to albums that have been smashed by the volume wars during mastering and on top of that been compressed to 128kpbs mp3s (fortunately, iTunes sold songs are now at a higher bitrate than that).

If you're buying some of these expensive headphones (which I'm sure are pretty good sounding BTW), for god's sake do yourself a favour and set your software to convert your CD's to lossless if you're on a portable digital music player (ie ipod) and better yet, listen to some music with dynamics, ie anything before 1995 (albums that have dynamics are few and far between after about 1999).

Lossless files + Dynamic music that has been produced with quality in mind (not loudness) = Eargasm on great sounding headphones

Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

Actually, if you're out and about in public listening to an iPod, I doubt you'll be able to tell a difference between a lossless file and 128kbps mp3 if its properly encoded.

I have 2 pair of the Beats....Over ear version and the in ear. The former are really great but they aren't very sturdy. I have red duck tape all over theses sucker trying to keep them going. Good luck trying to replace the chord that actually hooks to your ipod. It comes with 2 but I wanted an extra an you just can not find te damn thing anywhere. The in ear ones are aight....not worth a $100 bucks in my opinon. I'm going to get me a pair of those Koss and report back to you on how they compare.

if you are considering the dre headphones, check these out instead

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-650-Lightweight-Audiophile/dp/B00018MSNI/

these can be sometimes found around the price of the dr beats if you shop around. in a nutshell, if you spend the same money the beats cost on a decent pair of headphones like these, you will notice a big improvement over the beats

alternatively

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD595-Performance-Premiere-Headphones/dp/B0001FTVE0

the 595 are cheaper and a great headphone. i don't need to say anymore apart from listen

the dre headphones aren't crap headphones, it's just they are overpriced as a reasonable chunk of money is going towards licensing, promotion and styling, whereas most of the money is going towards headphone development and manufacturing when you buy the sennheisers

basically you are comparing a fashion headphone to a professional headphone. if you want a headphone for sound, get sennheiser, if you want to show off on the bus that you're a moron who spent a lot of money on headphones but can't afford a car, get the beats

I would argue with that opinion.....but, the source material is definitely a factor.

High quality listening gear reveals the compromise in compressed formats for me, be it headphones, HIFI system or studio monitors.

if you are deaf that might be true, but if not, then it's bollocks. if you have shit headphones and play quietly, outside sound can leak in, but a decent pair of headphones or a decent volume can cancel the outside sounds and let you hear the music properly. a pair of earbuds like cx300II's will let you hear the difference easily, and those are budget headphones

I'm not talking about earphones/headphones, I'm talking about lossy encodes vs. lossless encodes. Yes, you should always use a good pair of earphones/headphones.

These used to be my favorite headphones when I first bought them. They are greatness still, I'm sure. I just don't own a pair anymore. Had one and a backup. I do recommend them to those who don't mind having the band on their head and the pressure headphones with bands like that can cause when they are on your head. The sound is amazing.

I have gone through so many headphones. The three pair I have, I like:

Panasonic RP-HTX7

[img:$uid]http://i51.tinypic.com/2iqes6d.jpg[/img:$uid]

I like these when I'm in the mood for not so loud listening pleasure because the bass can be overwhelming on my ears, so I listen to music at a low volume on these. I bought these only because of their color, but they turned out to be an okay pair of phones. I'm not usually into wrap around your head headphones, so that these made my list is complimentary to this pair. Out of the three types of headphones I own and like, these are #3.

Nike Vapor Earbuds

[img:$uid]http://i52.tinypic.com/2u721yt.jpg[/img:$uid]

These have been my favorite earbuds ever! All of the other earbuds made that just stick in your ear never seem to want to stay in my ear. I'm constantly trying to keep them in my ear, I can't enjoy the music because my focus is on keeping them in place. LOL. I have never really liked earbuds anyway because I don't like how they feel inside my ears, but these have won my heart. Earbuds that have something that hang from your ear instead of just go into your ear are the choice for me. And these are some of the best sounding earbuds I've bought. Definitely recommend these. Out of the three earphones I own, I would consider these #2 overall. These, however, are my choice to wear when out in public.

Koss KSC75

[img:$uid]http://i56.tinypic.com/10r3gba.jpg[/img:$uid]

These are the phones I use more than any other I have. Koss has been the brand that I seem to buy more so than any other brand. Interestingly, I consider these too big to wear in public as compared to earbuds, but the traditional looking headphones like the Panasonic brand I mentioned here are worn by many others out in public. I usually pick up my earbuds for public use, however, these are my favorite pair of phones, so in public I go on many occasions. LOL. I like them because I like the sound and no wrap around headband is a plus for me. Compared to the earbuds I have, these sound better to me. I often wear them when out shopping, while in my bed with my eyes closed before I head to bed officially, when doing thing around the home, etc. These are my #1 choice in headphones as of now. They meet all my requirements: Not too big (as compared to traditional wrap around your head phones), they have a sound that I am satisfied with, and the fact that they are not wrap around your head headphones. The price is not too bad either. But no matter what type of earphones I buy, I can usually find them online cheaper than in a walk in store.

I have spent at least over $100 on a pair of headphones before. Bose is a pair that comes to mind. That pair of Bose did not last me very long at all. Surprisingly, they had a very short life span. And, yes, I take care of my stuff! The left or the right phone would go in and out and it stopped working properly. High price doesn't always mean the best choice. I have spend $25 on a pair of earbuds before because the packaging sold me on the sound, but they didn't sound as good as a $6.99 pair of earbuds I purchased at a TJ Maxx. Sometimes, the cheaper pair sounds better. It's all a matter of personal choice, but these are my choices...at the moment:)
