I've never been a fan of Ms Hill, I never listened to "Miseducation" because I don't think it's my cup of tea. Until recently, I had no idea she had that many troubles. ...
Erykah does that too, but she's not purposely late all the time like Lauryn Hill and not 5 hours late either. I HATE HATE waiting before a show, after 30 mins I start being grumpy, therefore I can understand what those people might endure BUT why in hell do they still come @ the anounced time when they know that she's going to be late. When Im going to a show I purposely arrive late because I know 95% of the acts I've seen in the past were late. So if you know that's how Ms Hill is and you really want to see her then try to arrive late too ... maybe they can call the promoter or the concert hall, or I don't know. In this age, Im sure those promoters can do something to warn those people that she's going to be late and keep them update about when she's going to hit the stage.
And if the show is in the middle of the week or if the concert hall is too far from your town then screw that, save your money ! [Edited 1/21/11 10:58am]

To be 3 hours late, in some cities/venues violates the curfew and/or the union agreement for stage hands. The way to stop it, is for promoters not to book her or fans not to buy tickets to see this wretched nut case. Talent does mean you get to disrespect the people that have put the food on your table for years. I would not wait 3 hours my fave acts to go on, yet alone a has been like Ms. Lauryn Hill. I would do it if the person wasnt such a piece of shit like Lauryn is, plain and simple, she is ungrateful, full of herself, though talented, she treats others like she is the shit, and that she can do no wrong, but enough of her, no one really cares about her anymore, i havent heard anyone musically talking about her in a decade. The only shows I've been to where the artist was significantly late have been Prince twice and Mos Def where he had a legitimate reason as he was stuck in Norway due to a cancelled flight.
I remember a couple of years ago seeing Cyndi Lauper and she was bang on time, right on stage exactly 20 minutes after the support act had left. She also finished exactly on time for us all to leave the venue and have ample time to get home on public transport. I really respected her for that.

Yeah Prince is really the only artist that i have ever seen come this late, and only once was it really really bad, it was at Club USA in NYC and the show was supposed to start at Midnight, it was a scheduled show, with tickets, not an afterparty, Prince took the stage at about 3:30am maybe a little earlier, a good portion of the paying audience left, the club closed down a few months later due to fire hazards "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

You're on to something here. Sometimes people just have to let these folks go, even if they meant a lot at one time. They should just enjoy the memories and the recordings.
I would not wait three hours for anyone. The longest I have ever waited was about one hour and a half for Maxwell and I was bothered by that (as was the crowd). It really did suck the energy out of the crowd and start the set off on a sour note. We had to leave the show early as well to catch a train and get some decent sleep on a weeknight. These types of delays really do have an impact and make you reconsider attending some folks' shows.

^^^ Well, I don't know about the moose cock! I really dug her one album...over a decade ago! But one album does not a legend make! I doubt whether a moose would wait three hours for her these days...the hard on would be long gone...
