Listen to this and then offer a major mea culpa for believing dumb internet rumors.

I didn't hear the rumor on the internet. I heard it from people who have worked closely and toured with her on multiple occasions.

It's a case of their supposed recollections against her strong denial. The accusations are largely irrelevant without proof.

It's a case of someone I know personally, and well, who knows her as well as you can get to know someone you spend weeks in a tour bus with. I trust them more than I trust her personal public denial. Of course she is going to deny that publicly. She may be racist but she knows, at least to a point, where her money comes from.

This reminds me of an 80s rumor about Donna Summer.Someone claimed that she made some anti-gay remarks during a concert and that she is against homosexuality. It was never proven, just like this Lauryn Hill rumor was never proven.Lauryn did a song with Joss Stone (a white singer) and she has recorded and/or sampled a few songs that were written by white artists. How could she possibly be a racist? hmmm

Got me. But it sounds like she needs, at least, better managment. Someone who'll get in her face and help her see that she's hurting the few people still willing to buy her tickets.

Who gave her the idea that a loose improvisational "jazz-like" show meant showing up whenever you felt like it too? Technically she didn't even perform on the right day if she started after midnight

She would have had a show last night at the Bowery ballroom. Where's THAT review??

Unfortunately, I won't be able to experience the professionalism and kindness of Ms. Hill since she isn't coming near where I live.

I still hold a grudge against her because she took away Madonna's chance to win additional Grammys for Ray of Light! lol

I mean, if it's a good-paying gig, I can see him staying. I can also see not trying to be hit by flying bottles, having played to ornery crowds. (all that was missing was the chicken wire.)

I know that's why he didn't ACTUALLY play "keyboard cat" and leave. I'm sure it's a good gig - just saying.

I also know there is no show without Lauryn Hill - but that is exactly the reason why she needs to be THERE/on time/with it.

I wonder how long it will be before promoters and concert organisers start putting clauses in her contracts that provide financial penalties for tardiness? I know that she still has some vocal fans but she is easily ten years past her peak and she is in no position to show paying customers this kind of disrespect. Maybe if she starts to take a financial hit she will start showing up on time?

I was gonna keep my fingers to myself on the matter of Lauryn Hill and these concert dates UNTIL I read this review on The Long Hair Care Forum. The poster even had camera phone pics (which I won't post here) so she was certainly there. She said it was a FIVE HOUR WAIT!!! eek

Last night I saw Ms. Lauryn Hill perform in Brooklyn, NYC. The doors opened at 7:30pm, however she didn't come on stage until after 12:00am!!! She didn't have an opening act and her DJ came out around 11:45pm. Two fans in front held up signs that said "you just lost one" and "this is insulting". Well when Lauryn came out, she saw the signs and had the music cut off! She talked directly to the fans with the signs and told them that "she's worth the wait" and if they didn't like it they could "ask for a refund". That crazy woman thinks shes worth a 5 hour wait! She sang some MOLH and fugees songs. I was in the front and point to my SO when she sang "doo wop that thing" and she laughed.

Overall...her voice wasn't the best and her music was so LOUD! She definitely wasn't worth the five hour wait. Save your monies if she's coming to your town.

Now normally I wouldn't say this but folks need to let the dream of Lauryn go and just remember her from the past if/until something radically changes w/ her for the better. She's way too gone to try a comeback at this mo, IMHO. It saddens me that she's actually screwing up her future by alienating so many fans today. Most older acts rely on their long term fanbase and back catalog when they reach a certain age. Every time Lauryn pulls these antics, she's making it harder for herself in the end. She certainly should be penalized $$$$$ for doing this. Venues rent blocks of time and expect you to be finished in that time....fans who wish for a refund should get it, but why should someone else pay for her irresponsibility? I could see it if this were a one-off, but it ain't.

Of course people were mad and had a right to be. Her concerts were in the middle of the week and people had to work the next day, get home for kids, weather, etc. These delays are NOT just about her "being worth it" (what an ego she's got) and the music but ler lack of respect for her fan's time/money/patience.

BTW, she kept PRINCE waiting too. eek

As for her alledged comments about White folks and her music, that one's been around forever. I din't know if I believe anything one way or the other about it. All I DO know is that she's behaved as if she wants NO fans for the past decade or so. confused

I will just try and remember Lauryn how she was, not how she has become. It's all very sad and I'm sure she needs the money to pay all her bills and child support for her man and all his kids.

I will never spend the time or money to go see her perform until I've heard for sure that she's taking it seriously. This kind of behaviour is just bullshit. For now, i will just listen to her one masterpiece and forget about how things could've been.

Anybody got any word on her show from last night @ The Blue Note? I'm curious to see how long she'll keep this up. These reviews are not new. She's been getting the same reviews since she recently started touring. Eventually she won't be able to sell tickets. I believe this will get old pretty quick. Yes, she'll always have her devotees but the majority of people will save and/or spend their entertainment dollars elsewhere. Damn, L-Boogie neutral
