What you mean "you think"? Having a single out in, I believe, April, and then waiting until near the end of the year to release is more than just off, it's OFF THE FUCKING METERS! evillol

And also, releasing it with Kanye and Minaj and Bieber among other debutes that week ...

EXACTLY!

Didn't think about that, did you Shaffer?

I'd advise him to sever ties with Def Sham and go indie. Chrisette Michele too.

I like Ne-Yo and I was looking forward to the album because I really dug "Champagne Life" and to a lesser extent, "Beautiful Monster".

Then when I finally heard the album..... I didn't like any of other songs on there neutral

I don't think his album being leaked had anything to do with weak sales. Nicki Minaj's album leaked and she still managed to sell crazy units the first week out, to the tune of almost 400,000 copies! Maybe Ne-Yo hasn't given way to the thought that his album just might not be good! Hello, Nelly? Stop pissing and moaning when your music doesn't sell. Not to mention, right now Usher and Trey Songz are hot in the R&B world right now so maybe the timing is bad for Ne-Yo. Either way it goes, I won't be downloading it or copping a CD of Ne-Yo because he does nothing for me. Go-Go needs to sit his ass down for a second and be a father to his kid more than worrying about a damn album sale!

Here's a solution to all the whiners in the music business. Pull a MJ by putting material out there, every three to four years. Take your material seriously. That way, you will have a quality album that can produce quantity.

LOL @ "Go-Go" lol . He's probably already over it, lol. Probably realized he's gotten all the mileage he's gonna get out of THAT story, (...and is still being referred to as SHE, HER, & Go-Go, lol).

All this discussion about Ne-Yo's new album, and I haven't even heard it yet. So, let me go "OBTAIN" it now, and see what all the fuss is about, lol. Actually, I've never disliked any of his other albums, so.... we'll see.

I've never heard any of his songs, but if he's so worried about hackers, record your album the old fashioned way on tape reels and not computer. With analogue recording, there's nothing to hack, unless someone in the studio copies it and leaks it.

nod

That would require him to actually play an instrument, though. LOL!

Can he play instruments?

Ne-Yo "Libra Scale"

Ya know, I'm actually just now seeing it, and I LOVE the cover. I'm also just now reading about the album's concept, and it seems like a very creative idea that would probably look great played out on a stage. I'll be giving it a good listen over the remainder of the weekend.

But right now I'm thinking; maybe somewhere in marketing, his record company dropped the ball. Because I really hadn't heard anything about this album being available until this thread (...I mean, I heard about some so-called "leaks" or whatever, but... just sayin - I rarely, if ever, listen to "leaks" or "bootlegs", not even those of Prince). Not to compare Ne-Yo to Sade (...but I guess I'm about to, lol), but I saw Sade's "Soldier of Love" promos for at least a good week or so before that album dropped. And as soon as it came out, I PURCHASED it. shrug

Okay, that's all well and good. Now, let me see what this music is sounding like.

I don't think he does. He is mostly writes the lyrics and someone else does the music. I remember when Stevie Wonder interviewed him on his old radio show. He asked Ne-Yo about the songs he's written and asked him about collaborating with him on his next project. Ne-Yo kept saying how great it would be, but couldn't come up with any concepts or anything with Stevie. That told me that Ne-Yo was mostly a lyric writer than a musical person.

Okay, just listened to the entire CD (...and I think I understand why sales may be a little flat, lol).

Though while there was nothing on it that I disliked, there wasn't really any song that reached out and grabbed me either. No particular song that I wanted to listen to again, though I thought they were all produced well enough.

One impression I'm getting from Ne-Yo is that he seems to be spending an awful lot of energy toward trying to appear and sound like the reincarnation of Michael Jackson. But what he's lacking is a Michael Jackson-type history or track record. It's almost like he's expecting to garner Michael Jackson-type sales & reviews, this early in his career, based on sorta sounding like, and sorta appearing like MJ. Though I accept that Ne-Yo is probably working very hard, and trying to make the best music he knows how to make.

For the type of music Ne-Yo seems to be interested in making, it would probably help his career if he played piano. Though if he can manage to hang in there, and not self-destruct, he may wind up with a fairly solid career over time. But I feel that in order to get there, he's gonna need to break free from what appears to me to be a Michael Jackson obsession.

So, while there's nothing all that bad about this album (in my opinion), there's nothing that makes me crazy about it either (...except I love the album cover, and I wouldn't mind being front and center at a Ne-Yo concert - I'm sure the stage production would be dynamic).

Not to me.

Ne-Yo has always wanted to come across as a MJ/Sammy Davis Jr. for a younger generation. He always performs in "classy" clothes. No over the top stage outfits. He's strictly about "class." Even if he's in some sneakers and khakis, he is still trying 2 b "classy".
