Raphael Saadiq and D'Angelo made a great tandom.

They should have (or still can) release an album together.

-Black Men United: U Will Know

-Lady

-How Does It Feel

-Untitled (How Does It Feel)

-Africa

-Be Here

Forgive me if I missed anything.

I think this thread hasn't got a lot of posts because it's true and what more can you say? lol

It's really time for D'Angelo to come back. If we can get some more Raphael Saadiq production, that would be niiiiiice.

Poor Saadiq, a master who can't create his own masterpiece (album-wise). Has anyone ever figured out why?

I think he's another Babyface case, both men gave their best to others and were left with subpar material for their own. Or maybe their voices didn't carry the material the way it should've.

Anyway, I agree with the OP.

Great tandom. Rumor has it they got together for D's new album.

Saadiq hasn't fallen short......... the public has. "Instant Vintage" got 3 or 4 grammy nominations as did "The Way I See It". I could go on about "Lucy Pearl" and various other productions.Let's not forget.....HE was Tony,Toni,Tone'! He damn near single-handly created the sound the suits had to name "Neo-soul" .The cat has been around 20+ yrs. You don't make it that long being wack. His body of work is waaaaaayyyy more impressive than many!

I don't think anyone is saying Saadiq is weak or untalented but you can't ignore reality,as a solo artist, he has not delivered a solid album that is worthy of his talent. One that breaks him into the mainstream conscious.

I think he's more impressive as a producer than a vocalist. That said I do love his leads when he was with Tony! Toni! Tone!.

still, he's been around and involved in a bunch of successful stuff

He doesn't have that solo superstar quality, though, either in looks, voice or as a performer. He just makes good music consistently

All 3 of Saadiq's solo albums are great (well two at least Ray Ray was alright.) It's not reall his fault, he doesn't have a strong backing team. Even with his albums not making the mainstream, they wee all nominated and some won Grammy Awards.

His highest charting single was Ask Of You from the Higher Learning Soundtrack, a great song.

I think it took too much time in between TTT albums and a solo joint. Last TTT album was in 96 and first solo was in 02. Had he followed up something after Ask Of You with a go along album who knows.

Hell, some people don't even know he was the lead from TTT.

That's only because no one really identified the group's names that well. People were trying to figure out which "Tony" was he. lol

Reminds me when Orlando Jones had his short lived Late Night Show and Chris Rock was on the show.

Dwyane was the house band leader and Chris looks over and see's him and say, "Hey, you from Tony Toni Tone, which Tony are you?"

Or...perhaps not. Not hating the man, but he's long gone. Heard him on the new Mark Ronson LP...and boy is it wack. Maybe he was high. Then again, he totally delivered the classic D touch on "So Far To Go" on Common's Finding Forever, so who knows what goes around in his mind and life.

Well people have to remember...Saadiq is a musician. In the past that was the norm...this day in age it's rare. So he really doesn't have to go "mainstream" his work spans 20yrs! He's not a "cookie cut" artist. He's true to his craft. "The Way I See it "....is my least fav of his work.....yet he got rave reviews for that project. Plus it kept him on the road for almost two yrs and got him a national tv exposure.

At this point in his career he's outlasted many....so that "breakthrough album" would be for his followers. I doubt the average 14-20 yr old would be checking for him.
