According to Bio, it is. How much of it is "new" to many of us is debatable tho.

Pretty much, the only way it might be new to me if they get more in depth with all 5 of them instead of Michael. I know the history on them though.

It's interesting that they have glossed over Diana Ross' involvement in their early careers(minus the "Diana Ross presents...". It almost seemed like a Berry Gordy PR piece.

The J5 bio is not bad though. I have seen every type of bio on these guys, but A&E tends to be very good with their bios. I like the fact that they gave Tito some mention for his guitar playing on the early works. They tried to keep it even handed throughout, but let;s face it, MJ is hard to downplay in any J5 biography. It still is sad to see how the young boy who gave us so much musically and then grew into the man who became the greatest is no longer with us.sad

I watched the J-5 bio and I thought it was okay. I loved the rare footage of the iconic "ABC" photoshoot. The shot of young Michael running across that sprawling beach during the photoshoot was beautiful. Overall, the biography show did hit some major points, but was I the only one who found that some of the information was misleading and inaccurate? Jermaine's marriage to Hazel Gordy wasn't a happy moment for the Jackson family, as one person pointed out it in fact was. Another thing that I found misleading was the fact that the special became more of a Michael Jackson story than a J-5 one. But what did I really expect????

That part where Deke was talking about Michael that he sacrificed so much and so many people loved him while that shot of 10 year old Michael on the beach was so sad of me. Like Tito said awhile back, he gave up alot and with everything he gave, it seemed like it was never enough sad

I wish they had talked more about the brothers' solo work. All of the brothers except Tito had at least one Top 40 single

You can't really do a hour long TV special about The Jacksons. It has to be at least 2 or 3 to really get all of it lol

I'm surprised that Jermaine didn't get interviewed

That was shocking given the fact that he talks about everything else. I have a feeling it may have turned into a Jermaine thing and maybe they decided to go with Tito because less attitude/ego was involved.

That was what hit me and you could see Deke was still moved by it all. I still can't shake the feeling sad

The biography had some flaws in terms of sequencing and editing. In all fairness to the brothers, it could have been better as it relates to more of their work with the Jacksons as well. I don't recall Triumph even getting a mention and it jumped from Destiny to Off The Wall then Motown 25. Victory essentially became a talking point for the Pepsi accident (which while very important, bypassed the album discussion). As I said in an earlier post, it seemed very Berry Gordy friendly and their work from 1984 to 1989 and then throughout the 1990s was invisible. The MSG shows got lip service, but I found they crammed alot of MJ into the last 30 minutes.

It was on A&E's spin off channel, the Biography Channel

Yeah, you can tell it's a heavy wound that they're still dealing with.....that we're ALL dealing with sad

There were several points they ignored

*The 1976-77 variety series

*1973 being their least successful year chartwise although their touring was at it's highest point. For example, Motown released Jackie's album but didn't do any promotion for it

*Motown recording albums for Tito and Marlon but didn't release them

*CBS planning on dropping the group after the failure of Goin' Places

*The success of the Triumph album, which went #1 on the R&B chart although the brothers didn't do much promotion compared to the promotion for Destiny

*Jermaine's 1976-1982 career. He had 8 Top 40 singles on R&B chart during his time away from the group

*The brothers writing and producing for others including Barry White

*Randy's 1980 car accident that nearly killed him

*Marlon's 1987 single, "Don't Go" going to #2 on the R&B chart

*The Victory Tour controversy

*Michael AND Marlon leaving the group after The Victory Tour

*2300 Jackson Street

*The Jacksons: An American Dream film

*The 1998 Humanity album, that was shelved

You can only fit so much into one hour. Hell, the first 40 minutes wee mainley from the beggining to 1970. They had a mention of all the brothers solo releases for Motown, than Jermaine getting married, the cartoon and than the move to CBS. That was ten miniyes. The final 10 minutes were their CBS years, Michael solo, Victory, 30 years show than Mike's passing and it was over.
