The debate should be Eddie Murphy vs Jamie Foxx:

I was waiting for someone to bring him up. I think the comparison is apt. I continue to be surprised that Foxx's music is taken seriously where Eddie was taken as a joke. I know that Foxx had an album early in his career (before he became mainstream) and Eddie had mainstream comedy success before putting out an album, so perhaps that has something to do with the different treatment. But I think they are both on par in terms of talent, and in general fair to average musicians. I actually might even give the slight edge to Eddie, as when I see Jamie perform even his own music, it seems like a mimic/impression. When Eddie sang I didn't feel that way.

Since this thread is still getting blown up on My Org I want to give an honorable mention to Bowfinger, which I thought Eddie was great in. Both of the characters he played were solid, not the silly overacting he does when he plays a truckload of characters in tons of makeup and prosthetics.

Yeah but that movie also benefitted from Frank Oz and Steve Martin. It's one of my faves for sure. I would go as far as say that the Top 3 Murphy movies are 1) Cop II 2) Coming to America and 3) Bowfinger.

Actually, to my surprise, MEET DAVE wasn't the turkey I expected it to be when I saw it about a year ago on cable.

My Top 3 Murphy Movies would have to be:

1) Coming To America

2) Boomerang

3) The Golden Child

Contrary to popular belief, Eddie was able to do some good music. You may think it's cheesy now but the instrumentals he wrote for "Raw" were decent.

Coming To America

Trading Places

Norbit

honorable mention:

Nutty Professor 1 & 2

Beverly Hills Cop 1

As for Eddie's singing capabilities I think he's fairly decent. Compared to some of the crap being played on the airwaves now...Party All The Time could be considered a breakout hit! lol

He certainly does a good James Brown imitation/parody.

I think that was just a lil squabble, they were all still cool around that time when In Living Color was on and such. They all got idieas from each other (some credited, some not.) Arsenio was once quoted saying "The Black Pack is a buch of people who wont sue each other."

Arsenio said Keenen one pulled a prank on him where he ordered a buch of those informercials 1-day air and had them all delivered on his lawn.

When he was a rotation host for the Late Late Show, he ripped up an Eddie Murphy poster and said "move over Eddie, there is a new star in town" or something like that.

He also accused him of taking one of his sketches and using it in Hollywood Shuffle ...
