Smaller Venues, legacy acts in your area You know Bonnie Tyler came to my city of 1 million people and performed in a casino?
She got paiiiid. You cannot hate on this hustle. If you want to see more live shows more often, don't make a big deal about the venue! What are some other tours that came through your city? [Edited 12/3/10 7:13am]

Inspired by this post: TD3 said: I give El, Chico, and James credit for playing anywhere and everywhere. El's has performed at Essense Jazz Festival in a small tent, a YMCA, da clubs, to having a concert in a church. Boy has a lil' hustle in him . . . We respect this kind of work ethic! I wish Debarge came thru my city!

I can't go one year without Del The Funke Homosapien selling out a club date here. We love music!

You know, Lil' Kim might not be winning that dumb "battle" with Nicki Minaj, but ask our city if they want to see her live show and Kim is winning. Lil Kim played a live date in my city earlier this year. So did Raekwon. Didn't even have to bring Wu Tang with him.. Just Raekwon on his own!

I saw Diana Ross this year in an arena. Started with "I'm Comin Out" singing the intro from backstage somewhere and had everyone quite hyped and then appeared for the first full chorus. About 5 different outfits, backed with a band including backup singers and a brass section, performing only hits, even some remakes. Do you think anyone gave a shit that it was in a hockey arena? Nope!

Big Daddy Kane really does "get the job done" like his hit record says. A friend of mine saw the Big Daddy Kane perform live in Montreal last year! We respect the grind! Gettin paid off what he made. EPMD and Nice & Smooth did a show together in Vancouver!

I've seen everbody in the last 3 seasons: Roll Royce, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Switch, Slave, Roy Ayers, El Debarge before his prison stint. I saw Peabo Bryson in Gary IN at West Side High School Auditorium Theatre last July.

Peabo is still grindin'!! I bet he has a magnificent live voice. I'd like to see (hear) Alexander O'Neal some day!

Singing voice Crystal Clear, sung all of his songs in their original keys. Brought a tight band and a string quartet that really sounded nice when he sung his ballads. Stage presence . . . 'ol school pro. I'd like to see Alexander O'Neal too, I'm not sure he even comes State side anymore for concerts.

I just saw El Tuesday night in NYC. Tix were $25. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

- I saw Tears for Fears twice this summer in a refurbished theater in NJ and at Hammerstein Ballroom .
- I saw Santana (w/Steve Winwood) and Experience Hendrix at Atlantic City casinos. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Where did you see El at in NYC. Full crown, small, large . . . . ? I know you said his voice was a lil' weak. El will be in Chi-Town next week again script had to tell, that's a damn shame. I'm going to try to make it.

The Highline Ballroom on 16th St.- a small GA venue with limited first come, first served seating.
At first we thought it was the sound system, but Doug E. Fresh got up and his volume was fine. The show wasn't necessarily bad, tho. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

What about if it's a general admission venue with no seats?

Tons of acts here in NYC which to me still has the best venues of any city, more for its smaller places than the large ones like MSG.
places like BB kings and irving plaza (now the fillmore) have always had the great shows from longtime acts, i have caught AIr Supply at BB kings a few times, Amerie, Styx many times, Rick Springfield has done many shows at the Nokia. To me the Nokia is an amazing spot, this year of course i saw a-ha there for 3 nights, ive also seen Rick there twice this year, Pat Benatar, Level 42 and others, its one of the best places. I thought I read Irving Plaza is not Fillmore anymore.
And Nokia is now Best Buy Theater, correct?
I always found it weird when B.B.King's booked metal acts. I saw Kittie there a few times and Finnish band Nightwish there once. It seems better suited for an older more conservative crowd.
My best/worst time at B.B.King's was when Siouxsie & The Creatures played for three nights and the first night a fight broke out right as the show ended and mace was sprayed throughout the entire venue giving everyone coughing fits. The fire alarm went off and people had to be evacuated through the freight entrance.

i dont know about Irving/Fillmore at this point and what its called this month it seems to keep changing. NOKIA as far as i know is still nokia but i wouldnt be surprised if it was the Best Buy Theater but when i went to those shows it was still Nokia, best buy theatre sounds horrible, just as bad as Citi Field (home of the Mets) lame. To be honest my worst concert experience in NYC was at Roseland when Duran Duran played there for the Medazzaland album, and at one point a small mosh pit formed, i was like really??? at a DD show?? apparently some punk teens snuck in, and were drunk and started shit.
I like BB kings then again the shows i have seen have not had "rowdy" crowds though sold out, i have seen Air Supply, Richard Marx, the Bacon Brothers (kevin), the more "rowdy" would have been when i saw MYA there that was on fire i have to say, and when i saw Amerie, that was a perfect setting for her too. I've been to BBK quite a few times. I think the worst experience I had was Parliament/Funkadelic. The show was okay, but the marijuana smoke was so thick, we practically got a contact high. I always thought acts who were relegated to playing smaller venues were doing so because they were not able to sell enough tickets for the larger venues. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley
