confused Right next to 'Blackout' I'm sure. Showing love for the woman she's become doesn't mean I think she's worth the millions they put into her music. I still don't like Britney Spears the artist. She still can't sing and is still paying top-notch producers and songwriters to make her hits so calling her the queen of anything that has to do with actual music is a big stretch to me. She's the Queen of Self-promotion...she can have a crown for that. nod Highly doubt this new album is going to be anything out of her normal sound...expecting lots of voice altering with great beats that someone else made and interesting lyrics that someone else wrote. It's going to be a number 1 album for sure because many Britney fans will happily go out and buy 2 or more copies of it to help her reach that top spot on the charts like they always have...cheating in my eyes but some artists need all the help they can get I guess. I'm happy that she's in a better place in her life and glad to see her standing up for herself but I think she should pull a Jessica Simpson and step out of the music world and just market her clothing line and perfumes because those make her plenty of money annually. All just my twocents

I agree and recognize the fact that she doesn't write her own music, etc. I love her as a performer. You can't argue that; she has incredible stage presence. Although, I must say, she isn't as good as she used to be. As much as I love her, it's true. razz Still love her to pieces.

Btw, she did write and compose 'Everytime' in 2005, and she does write FEW songs. I like the songs that she actually wrote. They can be touching. But she is known for her dance beats because she is known for her performances.

1. There's no use comparing Blackout's sales with anything, since it was made/released at the worst time of her life and she didn't do any proper promotion for it. Floptina did all the usual chat shows, a Behind the Music special, an Oprah concert and MTV award performance and it did nothing to boost sales whatsoever.

2. Blackout sold more on its first day than Bionic did in its first week and was set to debut at #1 but a last minute rule change (read: bias) meant it got #2. Bionic debuted at #3 and plummeted.

3. Gimme More was a huge worldwide hit, Not Myself Tonight peaked at #24 before plummeting as soon as the music video premiered falloff. Piece of Me was also very successful and Break The Ice was set to be huge but unfortunately Brit was being tied down to a gurney right around release time. Floptina was going to release Woo Hoo but chickened out when it didn't even crack the top 60, You Lost Me didn't fair much better.

4. Christina cancelled her Bionic tour as soon as sales looked crappy. Britney completed over 90 dates worldwide last year and Circus Tour was one of the most successful tours of the entire year, helping her bring in over 64 million dollars making her the 6th highest earning musician in the world.

5. Maybe Christina needs to think about hiring those songwriters since her idea of being a real artist is writing absolute shit like "I make myself so much wetter", "I'm so fucking sexy" "You wanna taste my woohoo". Yeah, REAL classy, timeless lyrics there. Britney has written some of her better songs - Everytime, Someday, My Baby, Ooh Ooh Baby, co-wrote most of In The Zone. Her producers/backup vocalists (including Danja, Robyn, Sean Garrett etc) talked about how hands on/professional she was for Blackout, despite her personal life being a mess. A producer just recently spoke about what an amazing voice she has. I think the only comment for Bionic from producers I saw was M.I.A not being totally impressed with how Elastic Love turned out.

6. Britney gets all sorts of hits written for her, Telephone, Umbrella etc - who writes songs specially for Xtina? falloff

6. One Floptina fan bought over 40 copies of Bionic, I saw the picture....didn't do much good! falloff

This is only exciting if she decides to be a great performer again. If its going to be another Circus or Blackout it'll be good to have new music as those albums are great but it will still be a dissapointing era. I want her to bring it as hard as Rihanna and Katy Perry do.

Steve who? Worked with some of the biggest in the industry, including... Kylie Minogue. Yeah, because her voice is INCREDIBLE! rolleyes Sorry, Britney has an average voice at best. And if she starts dancing she can barely sing at all.

lol Okay, I have to be bluntly honest now because I just can't do this argument anymore. I don't care if Britney was able to shit solid gold bricks because I have never been able to take any argument or debate comparing her to Christina seriously. It's always been absolutely laughable and totally disturbing to me that some fans of both of these women insisted on comparing them to one another from the beginning. They stopped being similar after you put their debut albums in the CD player and hit the 'play' button. In fact, they really stopped being similar after the first time I saw both of them perform on the MMC back in the early 90s; so, listening to their debut albums really wasn't needed to determine that they were nothing alike. The only similarities they have to each other is the blonde hair and the fact that they both sell sexual imagery like McDonalds sells Big Macs but what female pop artist doesn't nowadays so even that similarity doesn't hold much water.

I don't care how much someone loves (worships) their favorite artist. I don't care if they believe that their favorite artist is the beginning and ending to all recorded sound that was, is, and ever will be. All I care about is people being honest with themselves and others. I LOVE Janet...and I do mean 'love' in capital letters underlined and bolded. I love her; and, if I ever met her I would totally cry and probably pee myself from the excitement...possibe vomiting would not be totally out of the picture either. I think she's an amazing artist and person from interviews I seen of her over the years. She's fantastic to me. mushy But...if someone was to walk up to me and say, 'Janet is not a very good vocalist', the only words out of my mouth would be, 'You're right. She's not.' I have no problem whatsoever admitting that Janet is not a great vocalist because I don't think she is, but her not being a great vocalist doesn't keep me from loving her; but, I'm also not going to lie to myself or anyone else and say that she is either. I feel the same way about Katy Perry who I adore but when she does live performances I often find myself wanting her to just lip-sync because her vocal abilities definitely aren't anything to brag about or praise...sad I know. sad

For some strange reason, this non-sensical debate about Britney's vocal abilities (or lack thereof) seems to be what many Britney fans always want to do. It's annoying and delusional and that's being nice. Comparing Britney to Christina is like comparing Madonna to Mariah; which is like comparing apples to oranges. It's a fucking joke and anyone who does it is either: 1) a fanatic blinded by their obsession for that person; 2)completely tone deaf and should speak to a hearing specialist; or 3)nuttier than a squirrel turd. Now if you compared Britney to Jessica Simpson than that would make more sense to me because I don't think she a good vocalist at all. The only female artists from the late 90-early 00s that I would ever put in the same sentence with Christina is P!nk, who I totally believe can whip the floor with Britney, vocally and performance-wise, and can give Christina a run for her money and Beyonce, who I can't stand but have no problem admitting has very good vocal ability.

Please don't compare Britney to Beyonce and P!nk now because that would just be even more ridiculous than the Christina comparison. Even though they all do pop songs, these three women are vocalists and Britney isn't...never was and never will be no matter how much her high-paid producers turn the knobs on that console; or how many songwriters she pays to write her hit records; or how many albums she sells and how much her fans sacrifice baby lambs at their Britney shrines. She's not a vocalist; period and that has nothing to do with liking or disliking her that's just the way it is. If you like her because she makes fun pop songs and puts on an entertaining show than that's awesome, but don't try and make her more than what she is...which is just an image with a weak voice and hit songs that she doesn't write, produce, or play instruments on. To say she's a tool may be mean, but it's not that far from the truth either and the truth can be mean and does hurt sometimes but that's the truth for you. Moving on. cool

I agree and recognize the fact that she doesn't write her own music, etc. I love her as a performer. You can't argue that; she has incredible stage presence. Although, I must say, she isn't as good as she used to be. As much as I love her, it's true. razz Still love her to pieces.

I respect your post. I actually liked 'Someday (I Will Understand)' and would have been more inclined to support her had she have continued in that direction, but she still pays others to do the real hard work of making her songs and that's not something I find to be praiseworthy for any artist at her level of success and recognition. She's obviously capable of doing it for herself because 'Everytime' wasn't a bad song either. I don't disagree that she has the ability to captivate which isn't an easy feat at all. Unfortunately, I've heard soo many of her fans say how much her performances are lacking what they once had and I think that's sad because that's what she's about. A friend of mine is a die-hard Madonna fan who went to her last tour and she said the women didn't stop until the end and it was 100 percent the whole show. If your fans are pointing out how sub par the performances are than that's sad because they deserve the best and an artist should not have to fake their way through a performance if they aren't happy being there in front of those people who support them the most. It's not fair to anyone in the end and I feel that way about any artist. I had tickets to go to Janet's 'Rock With You' tour but then she cancelled and as sad as I was that I wasn't going to get to see her, I was happy that she wasn't going to prance out on stage, go through the motions and thus give a half-assed, unpassionate performance. If your heart isn't 100% into something than it shows. Like I originally posted, I commend Britney on how far she's come from her darkest moments and think she's a very smart businesswoman when it comes to marketing herself. She's a pop culture icon and nobody can take that away from her whether they like her or not.

Exactly. I couldn't have said it better. Every artist has something different to bring to the table, all have strengths and weaknesses. It makes no sense to compare ANY of them as I never saw the similarities between either Christina or Britney. I don't like when ANY artists are compared, because it's just a waste of time. If you like one better than the other, fine. That's opinion and everybody has one. Personally, I'm a Britney fan. But I have absolutely no problem saying that Christina has a better voice. I thought that was completely obvious. Anyone who says otherwise needs serious help.

The comparisons of Britney and Christina are like the INSANE comparisons of MJ and Prince.

Christina and Britney at one time did similar types of music and came from the same background, however thats long gone, Britney will always be the bigger seller, because she ALWAYS WAS and she was put in that iconic status by the media day one, xtina was not, xtina went a different route.

Now before MJ and Prince fans get their balls in a vice, im not comparing mj to britney or Prince to xtina, im showing that comparisons are INSANE, two totally different people. And MJ and PRINCE have NOTHING NOTHING NOTHINGmusically in common, and never did.

The reason fans defend her voice to the bitter end is because we DON'T.NEED the massive vocals and notes to get what we want out of her voice. Everytime and Someday, Unusual You, Touch of My Hand, Breathe On Me are cherished amongst her fanbase because they show what her voice IS capable of. WE KNOW it's not capable of massive long notes or spectacular range or whatever annoyingly presumptious music fans deem a "real" voice, but we don't give a shit because we never liked singers who go all out like that anyway. Mariah annoyed the shit out of me growing up with all her dramatics and that stupid high note. Now Xtina annoys me for the same reason plus that stupid unwarranted ego that singlehandedly killed her career (and most likely her marriage) this year.

Maybe if all these supposed "divas" stopped trying so damn hard and simply did what they do best, don't pretend/presume to be anything other than a pop entertainer and give your fans exactly what they're looking for - they'll find the same dizzying success Britney has. Rihanna did it, and look at her success (on par with old Brit's sales), why doesn't anyone else take notice?

Fine - compare Britney to Simpson - what song does Simpson sing that comes close to Britney's vocal presentation in Break The Ice or Don't Hang Up?

This might come as a shock to you but not everyone has to like the same sort of voice. Just cuz you don't consider it "good" in your books, doesn't mean it isn't. Anyway, what your opinion of her voice is doesn't matter, she gets the audiences/success/money/power while Xtina gets literally ZERO this yr. So if you're happy listening to your ~artist~ scream about how wet she makes herself, fine. I'll be over here with the actual pop icon, not the one who wishes she was.

Anyway, people who don't listen to Britney in the first place have no right presuming they know everything about her vocals. You don't walk into a courtroom and presume to know how a lawyer does their job just cuz you watch Law and Order.
