What People Do For Money was the 80's goofy! As a matter of fact, early 80's. I was in middle school when that song came out. Still have it on 12-inch LP. Classic. That proves that you really don't listen to rap too muc do you? In that case, why log on this topic? Peace and be wild!

All art says something, but not all art has enlightening or even provocative things to say. A balanced diet of art leads to healthy perspectives.
I think rap lost its artistic edge when its artists lost their authenticity and I think touch with the audience. I don't mean that in a "keeping-it-real (gone wrong)" way. I mean in the sense that they were offering a individual take, real or imagined, and that they did so intelligently. This of course includes artists like PE, Boogie Down Productions, The Jungle Brothers, Heiroglyphics, Pharcyde ATCQ and De La. But also some of the so-called hardcoreMCs. Nobody really believed Raekwon was an international gangster, but he wove a great story on Cuban Linx. Ditto for rappers like Ice-T, Ice Cube, Biggie, Tupac and others who put out vaguely semi-autobiographical work.
Now, cats are in it for the money. A lot of the established MCs are simply repeating themselves for a payday. Other newer MCs are just covering the same ground without any of the skill or intelligence of the old schoolers. Remember when young rappers could actually put complete sentences together? Many of them can't these days. Hit-Pop has been the new disco for over a decade and a half. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Indeed it is! I was listening to it yesterday( with headphones) and heard things in the music that I hadn't noticed before. The genius lies in the fact that its hard to tell whats sampled and whats played live. There are so many layers to the music. My absolute favorite hip hop album, and in my top 10 of any genre. This is what you want...This is what you get.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I started typing up a list but I stopped for two reasons. 1- It was hard, 2- There were too many songs but not very many artists, all by most of the same people. But this is my top 4 though.
1. Bone Thugs N Harmony - East 1999 2. Bone Thugs N Harmony - Eternal 3. Krayzie Bone - Murda Mo 4. Bone Thugs N Harmony - Wasteland Warriors

I love Hit 'Em Up. It's a classic, but there have diss songs with more "rage" released since that song came out though.

Most of the people you named are great. But it's awesome to see these 3 in the same list.
