Having recently scored a double Platinum hit with ‘Just A Dream’, many were surprised to see Nelly’s latest LP ‘5.0′ under-perform on the Billboard 200 this week.

None more so than the Grammy winning rapper himself; who just moments ago took to Twitter to vent his frustrations at his label Universal Motown - following the album’s #10 charting and 63,000 first week sales.

A record deal is a 50/50 partnership!As a artist its your job to provide the record company with music that they (record company) can sell!

Thing about the partnership is thati n the public eye the responsibility is not 50/50! The artist is always the 1who catches 90% of the blame. When a artist doesn’t deliver sufficient material they(artist) gets its budget cut for next album or worse dropped from the label!

So not only is the label ur partner but also disciplinarian and 90% of the time the one who decides if the partnership continues!

No doubt wen a artist doesn’t deliver a song that does crack top of the charts or even top10 the label is quick to say artist didn’t deliver.

So intern the artist must bare the brunt of that failure and take responsibility and consequences as handed out by his or her label!!

So whose fault is it when a artist gives the label not only a #1 hit but there first top40 #1 in label history! Sell 2mill n singles n 2.5month? Who should be held responsible wen a artist has a history for selling records so its not like a new artist n no1 knows his r her name?

Benefit of the doubt: Maybe no1 is checking for the artist anymore? Well if that was true then how do u explain selling 2mill singles n 2.5month?

I careless about haters u cant hate on#1song n 2.5mill n singles!but the fact is that some1 need to holdup there end of the partnership!

If the music wasn’t good how do u get to #1 and 2.5mill!!but if folks say they didn’t even no wen the album came out?????

If u only ship 200thound of an album how many are u f#cking tryen to sell??the artist does control that nor does he or she control marketing

When you give the record label songs that could be singles, well be damned when you can't sell albums, but you sell singles. Go figure.

He was there long time ago.

I feel sorry for Nelly. He is a good artist and has had major success. But the record industry is not the same anymore. Deal with it, its the way it is now, to be honest im more scared that he even sold 2 million of any single. he should be happy with that 63,000 because thats is good as it will get. Lets be real, he is bitching because he isnt getting paid, he may have 2 million singles, but take a guess what he made from that after the label and iTunes takes their cuts?? just enough to put a new band-aid over his eye brow, his album selling days are LONG over LONG over, just like everyone elses for the most part, but his genre of hip hop and rb is hit the most with downloading and bootlegging. And who here is shocked that Universal Motown has no money? They had no money about 10 years ago, why would they now? So some interesting arguments but get over it, its the game now, and you were part of the building of that game.

yeah the expection isn't up to nelly standard like back in the early 2000's but brass knuckles sold 800,000 as of today so that not bad considering the music industry is on its death bed

He's one of the reasons I've shut myself from "modern day 'music'". He's one of the main reasons why hip-hop's commercial sense is parodied as it is. Whatever with him and his sales. Boo-hoo.

I don't like to brag here because people get so offended when I mention I worked with an artist. But I was in Nelly's video in 2008 for "Party People" with Fergie. There was a lot of promotion put in that debut first single from his Brass Knuckles album. But it was a flop here in the US. I knew then that he would never recover from that. I think he should just go into acting & create his own projects. I know he signed a modeling deal with P Diddy for his Sean John underware clothing line.

I remember being so frustrated with Nelly's style because I thought he was a poor singer for a singer, and also an average lyricist for a rapper.

Who knew ten years later just about every mainstream rapper would be eating off his style!

There's no reason to regurgitate the current state of the music industry. Nelly options are, go independent or assume some of the risk and invest some of his money in his projects. Of course this means he should reap a greater % of the profits if the record/album does well and vice versa. Itunes really isn't the problem either . . . consumers' entertainment options are sooooo varied now. Music isn't the only game in town anymo'.

There are so many reasons and im not surprised that Nelly wasnt intelligent enough to look at all the things, and as usual, the artist lashes out at the label, which is always the way instead of looking in the mirror. Music is not relevant anymore, thats the first thing, young buyers that nelly appeals to bought the single because 99 cents is what they want to spend on music, they have got other shit to pay for, cell phone bills, whatever, so Nelly was nothing more than a ringtone in their lives. Next thing is the downloading, Nelly has to understand that technology is moving so fast that the business cant keep up with it, i mean when the "album" was the only thing in town no one had an album copier...that was too much work, even copying cassettes and cds was too much work, but now anyone can go to a site like maxalbums.com and get any album they are curious about and not have to wait in line, go to best buy where the person working in the store has no clue on the artist anyway, or most likely, the cd isnt even stocked. And third and most important, Nelly is in a genre that has NO SHELF LIFE at all, he is lucky he has gotten this far to be honest, and also he forgets that there is a HUGE disconnect between singles and albums today, that NEVER existed years ago, today someone like Flo-rida can have the most downloads in history and then sell 50,000 albums, why, no one cares about him long term, thats why the same artists that sold albums still sell albums, ask the fucking Eagles about that.

So please someone "tweet" that to Nelly, i mean come on now "Tweet"??? Im glad someone finally said something about people that "take" to tweeting as a way to get out agression, one of the NewYork Jets this week finally said something, when Terrell Owens and CHad Ochocinco were tweeting shit about the Jets players, his response was "tweeting?, arent u men? get on the field an prove what you "tweet".
