How many of you remember MC Shy D and/or Kyper? MC Shy D, the 1st rap artist ever signed to Luke Records (besides 2 Live Crew themselves) from Miami, FL USA
Kyper, an rap/dance artist from Baton Rouge, LA USA
SIDENOTE: I was living in Baton Rouge for a couple of months in 1990. And I can tell you firsthand that Kyper's regional success was massive in the club/dance scene around this time right before Tic-Tac-Toe became his only crossover hit with the mainstream that same year. And mind you, Kyper's uptempo tracks were NEVER played on black r&b radio at all, hence why he more remember as a club/dance act.

I remember them both. The first time I heard MC Shy D, I thought it was a girl.
As for Kyper, he's not from Baton Rouge, he's originally from Jackson, Mississippi and he had an absolutely HUGE local hit called "Conceited" in 1987....
This is the label it was originally released on....the one in which I bought it locally. He also cleaned house that year at the "Jackson Music Awards".
A few years later in 1990, I see he had gone national on the Atlantic label with "Tic Tac Toe". As for his first song "Conceited", I see Atlantic must have picked him up on their label afterwards and re-released it because here it is on youtube....

Good thing I still remember.
Kyper was ahead of his time. He made THIS^ track about MDMA/ecstasy many years before other rappers even thought about that party drug. [Edited 12/3/10 3:55am]

Wow, I never caught that.
All I thought was it sure looked like the same gym bunnies from the 12" sleeve for "Shake It" in the video to 2 Live Crew's "Move Somethin".
