I've heard from several people around the Detroit area that she has pancreatic cancer.

If that is the case - it is a grave situation. Pancreatic cancer usally has no advance symptoms, - and survival rate is usually 3 to 6 months; max known is 5 years after diagnosis.

Sources are saying breast cancer, and others are saying gastric bypass operation.

Whatever it is, we can be sure it is serious and serious enough for her to have various clergymen to phone her for prayer and cause postponement of all events until next May, 2011.

Prayer vigil is not commonplace for gastric bypass operations.

For Aretha to have been not in the public view since Albertina Walker's funeral where weight loss was obvious, especially in her face (and that is a symptom of pancreatic cancer, plus fatigue - and she by her own admission stated she has not been quite feeling her self lately).

Queen of Soul, I hope you beat all the odds and let one or two or three good Arethaisms flow from your vocal chords again.

I was reading where this type of cancer is usually prevelant amongst obese people and people who smoke, which she falls under both of those categories. And the rate is higher with women.

not ot further the bad feelings or vibe that we are getting from the things going on. BUT pancreatic cancer is what took the life of the great Michael Landon back in 1991, thing is, he was diagnosed on APril 5th 1991, and passed on July 1st 1991, so it was very very quick, and i will also remember his amazing sense of humor right after the diagnosis when he went on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, it was one of the highest rated late nite events ever.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Aretha had a "successful surgery" on that medical procedure and is in "good spirits". However, it's not sure when Aretha would be allowed to leave the hospital.

That sounds like good news. It never sounded like an "in and out" type of thing so I wasn't expecting her to be home the same day.

I'm still praying. Been praying all day.

Glad her surgery was successful. And more importantly, that SHE was the one that reported it.

I knew it was very serious when she did not appear at her annual Thanksgiving program and her late father's church in Detroit last week. She NEVER misses it. Let us pray.

Tracey Jordan, her publicist said - speaking for Aretha Franklin. The surgey was done at 5AM today and lasted until early afternoon. Her cousin Brenda, whom sometimes sings background vocals for Ms. Franklin also spoke to the media and reported surgery was a success.

There is supposed to be a press release update from Ms. Jordan tomorrow.

Several sources in Detroit know exactly what is wrong, and they will only ask for prayer or say it is serious - the medical challenge of her life.

Breast cancer or pancreatic cancer seem to be the most whispered about ailments.

Her sisters Erma and Caroline both died of cancer, her half-brother Vaughn (from her Mom's previous relationship before marrying C.L. Franklin) did also. as did her brother Cecil.

Detroit media knows what it is, but will not say die to privacy issues.

She is in Sinai-Grace Hospital on the Westside of Detroit.

She has only one remaining sibling, and that is her half-sister Carl Ellen of Seattle, WA (from her father's affair whilst he was a minister in Memphis).

Aretha has four sons: Clarence, Edward, Teddy and Kecalf. Teddy plays guitar in her live band. Clarence is a ward of the state of Michigan in a mental home; Edward has a guardian due to some emotional issues as well; and Kecalf is married with 4 kids, he sometimes raps, of late he has done Christian rap.

Ms. Franklin is single and has been married twice: Ted White, Sr (divorced in 1969); and actor Glynn Turman (divorced in 1984). She had one son by White, Ted Jr. and none by Turman.

this is the scary part and why I think it is more serious than her publicist is letting on. prayer's are needed. I hate to say this but if Retha did die and it was from an illness that could have been prevented with proper diet and mild exercise then I think a lot of people would wake up and start taking better care of themselves. While many cancers are genetic, many also are the result of unhealthy living.

Pancreatic cancer is no joke. And the worst thing about it is that there's no huge signs leading up to it. It just basically hits you. That's the last thing I want it to be.

a 2004 story..she was in the hospital from March 20th thru March 24th

notice she was feeling tired back then

Her song, "Take a load off Fanny,...The Weight"

ARETHA HOSPITALIZED AFTER ALLERGIC REACTION (2004 hospital stay)

An allergic reaction to antibiotics is reportedly what sent "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin to a Detroit hospital this past weekend. Franklin's doctor, Claud Young, said she was admitted after her blood-platelet count dropped, Local 4 reported.Sources told Local 4 that Franklin -- who turns 62 on Thursday -- complained of feeling tired during a recent trip in Chicago. She was reportedly supposed to travel from Chicago to New York, but instead returned home to Detroit to be treated for her ailment. Reports speculated Franklin's ongoing weight problem, high blood pressure and busy schedule may have led to her hospital stay. Franklin's New York City-based publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn, released the following statement earlier this week: "The Detroit native was admitted to an undisclosed hospital on Saturday. She remains hospitalized in stable condition. No other information about her condition is available at this time." Franklin's niece, who was not identified, told Local 4 Monday that the singer had undergone tests during the past two days. She said she wanted fans to know that her aunt was in good spirits. Franklin has reportedly been alert and able to speak. Franklin said she is feeling better and expects to be released from Sinai-Grace Hospital Friday, Local 4 reported.

*****************************

her former agent, the late Ruthie Bowen told sources that, "Aretha was bleeding from both ends", and she was rushed to the hospital.

Aretha Franklin calls her surgery 'highly successful' Susan Whitall / The Detroit News Aretha Franklin described her surgery today for an undisclosed ailment "highly successful" in a statement delivered by her publicist, Tracey Jordan. "God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers!" the Queen of Soul commented. The surgery took place early today at a Detroit hospital Franklin and her handlers declined to name. After several concert cancellations over the summer, in November, Franklin announced that under doctors' orders she would clear her calendar for six months of all engagements. She did not specify what illness she was being treated for. The last time Franklin sang in public is believed to be in mid-October, at the Chicago funeral of gospel legend Albertina Walker, when a noticeably thinner Franklin sang "I'll Fly Away."

From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/articl...z172O9u1nC ************************************************************************************ Della Reese offers prayers for Aretha Susan Whitall and Chuck Bennett Della Reese offers prayers for Aretha Detroit native Della Reese knows Aretha Franklin and her father, the late Rev. C.L. Franklin , from Reese's years singing in churches around Detroit in the '40s and early '50s. Before she was a club chanteuse, Reese sang gospel in the Meditation Singers, a group founded by the Rev . E. Allen Rundless ' wife Ernestine Rundless in the late '40s. "Rev. Franklin, Aretha's father, and Rev. Rundless were the two up and coming young ministers in Detroit at the time," Reese said. When she heard that the Queen of Soul has been ailing, the former "Touched By An Angel" star, an ordained minister, said quickly: "I'm blessing her right now, knowing that whatever it is, she can handle it. She's a God loving woman; she'll be able to use the Christ inside of her to handle whatever it is."

and she was aware then at Miss Walker's funeral that she was ill. There was an interview of her as she entered the church service on You Tube, where if you look in her face you can tell she was not only smaller from weight loss, but she didn't look healthy.

Some internet sites are reporting throat cancer, some breast cancer and most inside sources say pancreatic cancer.

One family member recently told a confidant that if they were Aretha, they would tell the public what it is so the speculation would cease.

We can be sure it is not a gastric bypass operation - prayer vigils are not held for that cosmetic surgery.

All of the legitimate news media knows what it is in Detroit. For legal and ethical reasons they do not wanna say due to liability and backlash.

One media person initimated to a friend that this is very serious and they would be surprised if she ever sang another song publically.

Aretha is faith oriented person, and in some regards she trust the higher power that she believes in - if such exits, I guess in her world, and the world of many others - the final song will come when one's work is done here on earth,

If that is your belief, then it shall be.

Recovering Aretha Franklin Visited by Rev. Jesse Jackson

Saturday December 04, 2010 01:00 PM EST

Days after she underwent surgery, Aretha Franklin got a special visitor: Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Jackson told The Detroit News that the singer is "recovering" and in high spirits. He did not say what Franklin, 68, is ailing from.

"She's doing very well. She's very prayerful. She's a woman full of deep religious faith," he added.

Although her rep has not revealed what kind of surgery Franklin had, the procedure has been described as "highly successful.

"I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country," the singer said on Thursday.
