i don't recall ever calling them hags lol

they do oversing though and i'll stand by that , especially Chaka Kahn

infact that's what often bothers me about most r&b singers ; the vocal gymnastics

it's unnecessary , exaggerated , affected and annoying

i know that might not be a populair thing to say , so be it

give me someone that sings subtle but yet 10 times more emotive

(although maybe less 'skilled) ;

someone like Nina Simone (for example)

over those overscreaming heffa's any time

this is an obvious choice....

Aretha Franklin "Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)" music

Stevie Wonder's original version is nice but Aretha takes this song and makes it her own.

Why should I give you any example? shrug I perosnally love wailing, but you don't, which is ok given that people differs with their tastes. But you did say that they were "overrated" and according to your logic earlier, you should've been called on it lol and seriously, that is.

My mistake, didn't read the "over" doh! lol

But you do see what I meant anyway? batting eyes I could site those very same reasons you mentioned as a "lack of taste" from your part and "call you on it" based on what you said earlier, right? wink

If you say so. Saying stuff like that is what snobs do, crying over something that doesn't matter, like saying someone is better if they wear Versace or Air Jordan instead of Toughskins and Payless shoes. If I don't like something, I just don't listen to it, I don't waste time being negative and say it sucks. I don't care what someone else listens to, it has nothing to do with me. Music is supposed to bring enjoyment and happiness, that's all. If someone like Soulja Boy gives a person pleasure, who are you to say they have "bad taste"? What makes a person who listens to Chopin, read Shakespeare, watch art films and other so-called "highbrow" entertainment, have "good taste"? As I said before, it's not that serious. Many people have nothing to eat, are slaves, tortured, raped, can't find work, fighting in wars, etc. and you're griping about whether or not someone likes what you consider to be quality music.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I tend to like Will To Power's mashup of "Baby I Love Your Way"/"Freebird" and "I'm Not In Love" better than the originals

*no, scratch that, 10cc's "INIL" is just as good. Will To Power's version of "Boogie Nights", however, falls short of Heatwave's original.

I was devoted to Rose Royce's original for all of these years, but when Lady Tee came out with this cover she put all of her love and respect for Rose Royce and the universe into it and took it to a higher ground for me. I would have never thought you could top this original, but for me, Teena took a wonderous song and put even a little more wonder into it.
