You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Some might not know what I'm talking about or probably will disagree but I think the Carpenters remake on The Mamas and the Papas California Dreamin was done very well.

Right off the top of my head....

a-ha "Say Hello Wave Goodybe" original by Soft Cell,, never even heard this song till a-ha chose to do it on the radio acoustic live...amazing

a-ha "Crying in the Rain" original by the Everly Brothers, a-ha nail this song combo of lead vocals by morten harket and the harmony parts with Paul Savoy, plus it was their only cover-single, huge hit worldwide

a-ha "Question of Lust" original Depeche Mode, its close but a-ha really added a new dimension to it, would love to hear Depeche re-do this song themselves, its a song, that a-ha said, never got enough attention.

Chaka Khan's "I Feel For You" is way better than Prince's original.

The Spinners version of "Cupid" is way better than Sam Cooke's.

I really love Jermaine Jackson's version of Daddy's Home.

MJ's version of Smile and Come Together are wonderful!!

Love Prince's version of A Case of U, Betcha By Golly Wow, and Crimson and Clover.

I love Larry Graham's version of When We Get Married.

Ike and Tina's version of Proud Mary.

And I can't remember the group...but the remake of Free Bird I really like..

Whitney's version of I Will Always Love You.

Britney Spears version of You Got It All.

I kinda like Micheal Bolton's version of When A Man Loves A Woman better..

George Strait's version of Love Sick Blues.

LeAnn Rimes version of Blue was superb!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Many of Luther Vandross' remakes are better than the originals....

"Since I Lost My Baby" (originally done by the Temptations)

"Superstar" (originally done by the Carpenters, although I think someone else did it before them?)

"If Only For One Night" (originally done by Brenda Russell)

It's OK. But even A*Teens' version is better than that (and I don't even like A*Teens!)

Those are the "originals" in my book, seeing as other versions of these songs do nothing

for me, but Michael's takes on these songs are flawless IMO.
