okay, I HAVE to limit this to one song per artist, otherwise it's totally impossible
so my list today in no particular order would look like this, can and will change any time...
Tower Of Power - Only so much oil in the ground
Slave - Slide
Kool & The Gang - Jungle Boogie
Chuck Brown & Soul Searchers - Bustin Loose
[Edited 11/29/10 5:13am] Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

The list is limited to 25 tracks, NOT 28.
And BTW, Kool & The Gang's Spirit Of The Boogie has (IMO) a higher funk value than those 2 songs you mention.
Just saying! | |

Any list without The Jam by Graham Central Station is null and void.

Can't do it. You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

I've listened to a million funk songs, fuck making a "list".

Xactly
Most of these lists are going to contain the same songs anyways. You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

And also, everyone has their funk preferences. Some like The Funk horn-driven. Others like The Funk synth-driven.

I'm not so biased. I love funk in all of its formats.

Although I listen to synth-funk more often, I can NEVER make the mistake of forsaking the horn section of The Funk that easily.
How could anyone not like THIS^ horn-driven funk track?!?

Yes, These lists need to be separated by era to be fair to the genre.
James Brown can hold the whole list down by himself if there isn't any criteria to follow. You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

I agree. A list of synth-funk/electro-funk tracks can go up to 100, if the research is deep enough. And we all know that Roger Troutman, Prince, & Afrika Bambaadaa would get plenty of coverage. Even the men of Kraftwerk would get a few namechecks!

We should just compile a list of 500 must have Funk trax.
