I can't listen to any of the following bands that have really big followings.

AC- DC

Journey

The Eagles

And Elvis Presley is someone I respect, but I've never really been able to get into either.

AC/DC
Billy Joel

I was born in the 80s so there are more than a few 70s legacy acts who continued to make music but really I missed their early prime/"classics".

After the Beatles, yeah I couldn't tell you much about solo Lennon. Don't even have a single best of compilation. I'm more of a Wings/Macca guy from that point.

John's solo work is awesome. You are missing a lot of great music.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I can "imagine" there is, but I haven't found the key. Maybe some day.

Even in Canada, it's pretty easy to, well not IGNORE her catalog but basically miss it outside of maybe two big songs.

In 2007, I set out to correct this and ended up falling in love with her 70s albums.

See? She was another one of those legacy artists that I just missed by being born in the 80s.

Unlike you, I ain't got no excuse. lol I was born in the 70s and I'm a huge classic rock fan (tho I am more inclined to the UK groups)! I just haven't hit my stride yet w/ Joni, tho I know she's a great artist.

I'll also add The Band to my list too...for many of the same reasons. My Boomer classic rock friends love them, but I just can't get w/ it too much!

Actually he doesn't bother me....not my fav, but doesn't make me wanna hit somebody. lol I just never got w/ the whole "down home boogie" vibe that was a touch too crunchy for me. I'm a more "balls to the walls" kinda girl! cool

Joni Mitchell doesn't have rock songs like that... haha maybe you've ignored her catalog for good reason. lol

As musicians, this might be true (esp Ringo and John)...but as songwriters, composers, etc...nope. The Beatles were smart enough to quit as a live act while they were ahead, but were masters of the mixing board. nod

When I think of the words "garage band" I think of stuff like Lenny Kaye's "Nuggets"...ya know, ? and the Mysterions, The Ramones, and stuff like that. The Beatles weren't the world's best band or live act, but they weren't just about covers and catchy tunes that sound all the same either.

Just my -$.98.

Yeah, I know... lol I do appreciate great lyrics tho. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate her or The Band or even James Taylor, but I have to be in certain mood to give her and other fairly downbeat artists a whirl.

It's more of a preferance than a hardcore dislike. Well...not Wings! I genuinely dislike them.
