Was this ep shown before? Don looked like he was gonna beat Rick. How many times after this was Rick on Soul Train? [Edited 11/27/10 12:03pm] "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries." |

His first appearance was in late 1978 I believe. Then he appeared later in '79 with Teena Marie for her debut. Then the 1980 performance. And I believe the show had a tribute episode for Rick, I guess, to honor his impact in the few short years of his success. I believe it was in 1981. |

I can only imagine what Ricks issue with Don would have been , lol. "There's Nothing That The Proper Attitude Won't Render Funkable!"

S.O.S was putting it down on this episode. This was their horn based
sound before Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis gave them a more polished
R&B sound. Don't laugh at my funk

The way he kept the crowd going fter the song was over - true Soul Train moment. To those who think Rick James wasn't popular in the 80s - there's your proof. I've never seen that happen for that long on Soul Train before. The crowd LOVED Rick. |

Yeah, you could tell the crowd loved Rick and Don hated that. The only other time I saw a crowd get happy like that on Soul Train was when Vanity was on there. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries." |

They got all crazy when James Brown and Marvin Gaye were on there. You should've seen how the girls were swooning when Marvin lipped "Sexual Healing" on there. They were all like . |

They were pretty excited over Al Green's appearance back in the 70s, too. A few performers have incited excitement; that's one thing. I have never seen the crowd go on that long after the song was over That was my point. They were in the Rick zone and would have chewed Don's ass out if he tried to stop them.
It was also funny when Rick intimidated Don with his "junk" |

That show aired yesterday, that's one of the few times I've known Cornelious (usually a reserved man) to gush over an artist. |

2 other show moments were with Mary Wilson of The Supremes who i think is the only one who got Don to join her with dancing in the Soul Train Line,
and an interview with funk group Aurra. Starleana really had an "aura" of sensuality when she performed and Mack Don told her "i'll see you backstage", lol. |
