The Black Eyed Peas Land Super Bowl Gig
November 26, 2010
The Black Eyed Peas are this year's marquee performers at the Super Bowl halftime show, the NFL has announced.
The "Boom Boom Pow" group releases a new album, The Beginning, on Nov 30, and fans who buy the CD will have a change to see the band perform live at the game.
The Black Eyed Peas performed "The Time (Dirty Bit)", the first single off The Beginning, at the American Music Awards Sunday.
The track borrows its chorus from the 1987 hit ballad "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," from the film Dirty Dancing.
The Super Bowl spot is considered a major coup for performers because of the enormous reach of the broadcast: more than 153 million viewers turned in for the Who's halftime performance last year, according to the NFL. Previous halftime performers include the Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Paul McCartney.
Super Bowl XLV takes place Sunday, Feb. 6 at Cowboys Stadium in North Texas, and will be broadcast on Fox.

Do the Superbowl people know they can't sing?

I was actually getting used to the NFL booking veteran acts that can actually sing AND play their instrument. From a marketing perspective I actually dug the artists they booked: great rock n roll musicians and singers who have lengthy careers and songs that have stood the test of time, and are universal to all people. I was hoping they would book The Police/Sting, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Genesis, Santana, bands that have earned the privledge of playing before an audience that big. Even though I'm not fans of The Rolling Stones and The Who, I enjoyed watching those bands play the music they spent so many years crafting and perfecting. The Black Eyed Peas will be so bad, that the NFL will strike their halftime performance from the record like the NCAA does dirty heisman trophy winners.
I'm hoping that Fergie does something just as "bad" as Janet Jackson did in 2004, so acts like BEP won't even be considered ever again. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

I'm not into football or the Black Eyed Peas, but what are the complaints about? If I remember correctly, the entertainment used to be acts like Carol Channing and Up With People. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
