Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has launched a lawsuit against video game-maker Activision over a game in its hit Guitar Hero franchise.

In the suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, the singer says that he only permitted the company to use the GNR hit Welcome to the Jungle in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock under the stipulation that the game would not feature any reference to his former bandmate Slash.

The game creators nonetheless included a character styled after the distinctive former GNR and Velvet Revolver guitarist, wearing dark glasses and his signature top hat perched on a mass of dark, curly hair.

The cover of the game, released in October 2007, also features this depiction of the famed guitarist.

"Activision was keenly aware of Rose's concerns in these regards," the suit claims, "and began spinning a web of lies and deception to conceal its true intentions to not only feature Slash and [Velvet Revolver] prominently in GH III, but also promote the game by emphasizing and reinforcing an association between Slash and Guns N' Roses and the band's song Welcome To The Jungle."

Rose said he has been trying to distance his band from its former guitarist since he left in 1996.

The singer is seeking $20 million US in damages.

I like Axl too but he's been an asshole for years unfortunately. confused If I pick any member of GnR to hang out with, I'd pick Slash and Duff over Axl easily.

If Axl's ego hadn't got in the way, there was no limit to what GnR could've done.

MEMO: Although Axl Rose owns the "Guns-N-Roses" trademark, he do NOT own the image, persona, OR clothing fashion of Slash.

Therefore, I'm not convince that Axl has a case.

Axl is (was) an egotistical monster with a clear bypolar disorder, but I still think he was the brain behind tracks like Patience, November Rain, Estranged, Breakdown etc. In other words, evolution. He was the guy that introduced pianos, horns and strings into the band's sound, but Izzy Stradlin (a notoriously old-fashioned and impenetrable guy) was not happy and he left the band in 1991. Okay, fine, goodbye. neutral

Slash is too old-fashioned as well. Just look at the predictable, unremarkable, boring 4x4 hard-rock he has done after GN'R. Slash and Duff should have never left the band.

The Rolling Stones suffered a similar crisis in the mid-80s but Jagger and Richards are, by far, smarter than Rose and Slash so they decided to go on, just for the sake of the music...

Although Axl did have a good point about evolving the band's sound, Slash also have a equality good point of reminding Axl that GNR is a rock/metal band that is suppose to sound like GNR, not freaking Queen, Elton John, OR Nine Inch Nails.........3 different acts that Axl wanted GNR to be like right before Slash, Duff, & Matt quit the band.

I see your point on this=] But... idk i am such a music nerd that. I love it when band's evolve, when they mix new sound's/instruments & feel's to there song's.

I hate when band's get caged in to one thing, i love evolving and growing in a band or artist

I'm with Joe Tyler. For all it's faults, I'd much rather listen to Chinese Democracy than Slash's latest album of piss-poor strip club rock.

Back to the lawsuit, the issue is that Axl Rose verbally agreed to allow Activision to use Welcome To The Jungle in GH3 only if the song was not playable with the slash carachter, and there were no VR songs featured elsewehre in the game. It's becuase Activision went back on this verbal agreement that his suing thier asses ($20 million seems a bit opportunistic, and I'm not sure whether verbal agreements would stand up in court).

Apparently, Activision also screwed Courtney Love (well, who hasn't? razz ) over an agreement to use Kurt Cobain's image in another GH game, so they have form with these sorts of shenanigans.

It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:
