I still can't believe Trisha got the Grammy over LeAnn.

My vote goes to LeAnn.

I know both versions all too well, so I didn't need to see the videos.

Garth Brooks' wife has more value in the eyes of the Grammy Awards Committee members than LeAnn does.

it was nominated for best female country vocal performance. LeAnn's wasn't country. Trisha's was. in fact, Trisha was only asked to record it because the film producers (who the song was written for) didn't feel LeAnn's version wasn't country enough and she refused to make it so.

so there you go.

Excuse you, but LeAnn's style was country-pop long before she crossover to Top 40 pop full-time. It's no more OR less controversial than the current style of Taylor Swift.

Trisha Yearwood's version is more country, and therefore was nominated for the country category. What is so difficult about this? Trisha was asked specifically to record the song because LeAnn refused to make it country.

LeAnn did NOT refused to "make it country". It was the soundtrack producers that had the opinion that LeAnn wasn't singing "country enough". And when they requested for LeAnn to return to the studio to redo her vocal track, she simply refused. neutral

right. the song was intended for the movie. the producers wanted a more country version, which is their prerogative. Leann Rimes didn't want to do that. they got Trisha Yearwood to do a more country version for the movie instead. both versions got nominated for a Female Country Vocal Peromance Grammy. Trisha Yearwood did the more country version so she won the Female Country Vocal Grammy for it. why does this not make sense to you?

Trisha and Garth weren't married at the time.

I'm not even sure he'd started cheating on his wife with her yet...

The part that more country, yet shittier wins over more country-pop but way better. That's the part I personally have some difficulty with. lol

Well sure, I prefer LeAnn's version as well. But she was consciously working on moving away from country, and at the time, there was some resentment in country circles about that sort of thing, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that she lost the country vocal performance Grammy when there was a version that fit the bill better. If they'd both been up for female pop vocal with the same song, LeAnn would have walked away with it.
