Sam Bostic and his band Circuitry around 1985. The chorus somewhat resembles "Lady Cab Driver".

The synth hook kinda reminds me of Lady Cab Driver.

^ Excellent jam by Charlie, with the synth+vocal effects at the intro and i also dig how the sudden synth-chord leads him to his first verse. I can imagine that Chaka was hip to cover his track.

let's not forget Pull Up To the Bumper by Grace Jones, which I'm convinced Prince borrowed heavily from for Lady Cab Driver

The synth-chords (not the bass-synth) at the intro always reminded me of the intro synth-chords of MJ's "Billie Jean". Different sounding chords though, but somehow still played in a similar rhythm. | |
