Here is a pretty weird question. I was having a discussion with some friends and they mentioned how fast MJs facial features changed since Thriller. They then asked me could I see "Thriller face" MJ singing "Dangerous face" songs. I know it sounds weird, but I really couldnt imagine it. I can't see 1982-84 MJ singing or performing anything AFTER Bad album.

Why should it be weird? It wasn´t weird when he sang Off the Wall and Thriller songs and Dangerous and History tours as "white".

It wasn't weird when he did it because we all saw it. I just cant see MJ during Thriller era performing later songs from Dangerous-Invincible. The outfits, I can't imagine the hair either

It wasn't an image thing - it was a growth thing for me.

lol think of 1983-84 era MJ...got it?...NOW, can you see HIM performing songs live like Stranger in Moscow, They Don't Care About Us or even You Rock My World?

confused Are you equating that to his physical features or the success after "Thriller"? Because I could see him doing that material. He was already starting to really get into other genres around 1984. He got more open to other forms of music (though he already was). Hell "Little Susie" is something you probably wouldn't link a different-era Michael to BUT he wrote it back in '79 so I can't agree with that. I just can't. He just evolved.

Not success wise, physical features. Like, would he still have short hair, or long hair? you know what I mean?

I dig it. I'm just trying to picture Thriller era MJ performing in outfits from Dangerous and HIStory tour.

As far as Little Susie goes, we cant be for sure that those are the same tracks. I mean, hell, we all thought "Much Too Soon" was an early version of "Gone Too Soon"

I guess but I don't know how physical features can change an artist's direction. But that's just me. shrug

Artistically speaking Michael evolved. He would not have been the true artist he is if not. nod

Basically White Michael can’t sing those songs is the comment. Like I already pointed out he still had R&B in his later albums, but people associate “White” Michael with the edgy stuff that was on dangerous, History and Blood on The dance floor. He did change drastically throughout his career a lot of times it was like a different artist but that don’t mean he can’t sing those old songs. lol

I think Michael had all different types of music in him all along really. He came from the 60's & 70's music was so versatile.

Heard Much to Soon, thanks to that guy, Bboy i thinks his name...i think he's a massive Justin fan.

Anyway, Only had 2 listens so far. On one hand, it's cheesy, sure and it's very nursery rhyme-ish....but, on the other, it's got some good melodic instrumentation going off there, with the harmonica, acoustic and most of all, real strings. What actually charmed me to like this track better than the rest of the new so far, is that it took Mike back to his roots, no, not Off The Wall, i'm talking Music & Me...Something Don't Walk Away should of done, but failed to. It may be a demo, as his voice is only half there, but it's enough to get the gist....and it's a keeper for me. It SLIGHTLY takes him out the pop machine, which is the one thing he just never did often enough (which is/was my problem with him most.). 6/10

~

On a side note, i watched Mj ad libbing to Earth Song live on Youtube by chance yday and if he had just ditched the theatrics, miming, trying to dance like he's still 25 etc etc from the latter concerts and got a live band (Which he kinda did for TII, but didn't use them effectively imo) and performed like he did in that clip to a mature sound (seeing as he was 50!) with that band, a lot of my frustration with the man would of eased because he has the voice and adventurous nature. Just anything other than something with a chorus! Got experimental or something...The pop thing was tired.

Oh, it would be good to actually debate points rather than emoticon a reply...because let's face it, that makes you look like you just can't handle your flawed god being criticised.

everything is so subjective though and people latch on to ideas and clihe's like cattle. It's hard to make people see things any different. I can't believe how some Prince fans and critics have always always derided his current output, whether it was sign o' the times, lovesexy, parade or later albums as having been a letdown. Some of these albums are now classic. I'm not saying prince hasn't laid plenty of turds but it gets so skewed. Elvis is usually thought of as going downhill after the fifties but some of my favorite songs of his were the ones just before his death. People just like to talk, that's all. Only thing mike didn't do was release more material as an adult. In some ways that was good, he always strove for quality, but had he been more liberal, I think we'd have alot more great music to cherish (along with the not so great). I haven't like most of what I heard of Mike's early stuff outside of the hits but that's just me, lots of you people like it and I can't say I've listened to enough of it to give a fair opinion. The Motown hit machine wasn't known for having solid albums from every artist. Of course Mike was prodigious as a producer and writer, writing hits in his teens.

The fact of the matter is that MJ musical legeacy is based on the first 20 years of his career. You take away the first 20 years, your left with just 3 albums and full of sensation and controversy. You take away the J5/Jacksons era, the OTW and Thriller era your not left with much musically. The icon which is Michael Jackson was consolidated during the Thriller era. All the subsequents albums were based on hype and comparisons with Thriller, which was unfair but that was the way it was. I mean critics were still comparing Dangerous & History to Thriller, rather than the Bad album. With Thriller he left a blueprint, which everything else was compared to.

I guess, but I distinctly do remember many critics saying that bad was better than thriller. At any rate, personally I like some of the stuff off of history and some of his wacky stuff like ghost, morphine, think it's some of his best stuff, and as I've said before, was him at his full maturity as an artist. He had his own sound, something he didn't really have when working with the producers. He peaked late in my opinion in this regard. Prince, Elvis, the Beatles, Springsteen all had their own distinct style by the time they were in they were 19-20 something. Michael finally succeeded in killing off all the daddy figures and doing it himself.
