Seriously, what do you all think is the next step after this MICHAEL album? DO y'all see another album next year or 2012? I don't think they're going to put out an album next year. I'm to a point now to when I don't even care about those Cascio tracks anymore. It is what it is.

A few pages back I laid out a timeline I of releasing new product over the next 5 years.

I think next year will be about consolidating the back catalogue - Off The Wall and Bad Special editions.

Next year is the 25th Anniversary of Bad so it seems an obvious choice - and there is always much love for OTW so that seems realistic too.

I also ear marked DVDs of his tours to come out next year too.

It's a balance of pleasing casual fans and long term fans and trying to protect the back catalogue and unreleased material.

I personally think if they have 20 killer MJ tracks from 2001 - 2009 you can guarantee they will be holding onto more than half for future releases.

According to that article, the MJ album may be Epic's only saving grace this Xmas. They're shipping 900,000 copies and expect to sell 400,000 the first week.

I was about to make a thread about that lol

All these fantasy track listings are fun and all but with Shady Riley producing -

I wouldn't expect much. Maybe we can get an album of all Cascio tracks

and we can plan to have the real MJ vocals phased out by the third "REAL"

album.

I don't mean to sound cynical but I'm still blown away that this mess

is actually happening. This is like a bad dream or a bad joke.

Hold My Hand was recorded at The Palms though - a more professional studio than what I assume the Cascio's set up was.

Also anyone in a studio will tell you different mics will give you different vocal treatments. As will processing, gating etc.

We are all use to Bruce Swedien's mic arrangement and genius engineering as well, so comparisons will differ.

Again hopefully this gets resolved soon enough but I doubt it will to anyone's satisfaction.

Not a valid argument my dude.

As I said, I record professionally in multi-million dollar studios all the time. Just this past Summer, for example, I was at Metalworks in Toronto mixing for 3 days. That's the studio where Prince recorded Musicology, and you KNOW a studio is good if Prince records there, especially since he has his own studios at Paisley Park.

Now, the total cost of my home studio in my bedroom is less than $1000 dollars. I have a couple of budget mics, a simple audio interface, my PC and some instruments. I don't even have professional audio monitors at home right now. I write my songs in my home studio, do some light mixing, and then I take all the multitracks to my cousins REDONKULOUSLY expensive studio where the room itself was purpose built from scratch as a recording studio, he has a full Pro Tools rig and some of the most expensive gear money can buy. So, I take my demo's there and mix the music there properly, use the home vocals as guide vox and then re-record the vocals properly on an incredible mic that costs a few grand with an amazing preamp.

If you play a mix I did at home with the final versions back to back, the difference is clear. One sounds like a guy in his bedroom with budget equipment and one sounds like a million dollar professional mix that could be any song in the Billboard Top Ten (in terms of professionialism and engineering). But no matter what, it's always obviously the same guy. No matter how much the vocals are processed. It's still me. It's obviously me on both versions.

Michael could jump into the bottom of a well and record a vocal on a $10 tape recorder, and I bet everything I own that I could take that hypothetical tape and run the vocal through every single vocal processing plugin and effects unit in my cousins studio and you would still be able to tell it was Michael.

And of course, the flipside of that is that Jason Malachi or James Porte could walk into literally the most expensive studio in the world with the best gear, hell they could even have a 24 hour sesson with Seth Riggs entitled "How to sing like Michael Jackson" and then process the living fuck out of whatever they recorded with Bruce Swedien pulling out every trick in the book....and we would STILL be able to tell that it's NOT Michael.

I understand you are trying to be balanced here, but there's no excuses for why these vocals don't sound like Michael. There's no excuse as to why they have nothing in common with the hundreds of songs MJ recorded over the best part of 40 years. They sound different because they are coming from a different person. Period.

And they've layered in adlibs and samples from other Michael songs to obfuscate the truth and to try and trick people.

Wow. If that's legit and from the new album, it has to be the instrumental to "Hollywood Tonight". That's a Teddy Riley production through and through. It has all his signature sounds.

Sounds good and very promising. I look forward to hearing the actual song!

Again hopefully this gets resolved soon enough but I doubt it will to anyone's satisfaction.

Please don't continue arguing on this issue if you don't understand what those "treatments" are. "Anyone in a studio" should be at the least able to tell you that "gating" doesn't change anyone's voice in any manner. A gate cuts off a signal at a certain threshold in order to prevent unwanted noises and reduce hiss between breathing gaps and other pauses. A microphone is a microphone and Michael was a strong enough vocalist to pull off a decent vocal on modest equipment as well (most of "Thriller" was recorded with a Shure SM7 - a very cheap microphone by professional standards). Microphone placement has to do with how vocals fit within a mix. It's not something that adds a foreign quality to the voice of the vocalist. Trying different microphone placements can be sometimes used in an effort to tackle intonation and sibilant problems some inexperienced vocalists have.

Besides, that whole argument is absurd. Are people really trying to say Michael's distinctive vocal style that he used for decades was the result of some sort of studio trickery and without it he would sound like a boyband member? When he was nearly 50 he all of a sudden started sounding like that? Does not compute.

Singers can be sometimes hard to recognize on bootleg recordings if the sound quality is really bad. Say, some of those old "Jewel Box" Prince outtakes were like that. However, there is no distortion or sound quality degradation whatsoever present on "Breaking News". There is not even excessive amounts of autotune, harmonizing effects or anything like that.
