Anybody Have Any Thoughts on Anne Murray? I grew up hearing her thru my mother and she was backed up by some pretty soulful singers in the 70's. She's also known for those lush, mushy ballads and she's got a deep, smoky alto too. Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

My mother used to have one of her 8 Tracks and played the hell out of it. I was so glad when that damn thing got tangled up in the 8 Track player and she had to cut the tape several times with scissors to get it out. Andy is a four letter word.

Anne Murray was the predecessor of Christopher Cross, Air Supply, Juice Newton, and a few other artists that brought Top 40 pop radio through a post-disco transitional period of 1980-82.
All I have to say is thank goodness that the success of Michael Jackson and Kool & The Gang help put a stop to that crisis! And it a good thing that r&b/soul radio was still playing funk at the time.

Actually, she was around a long time before disco also. My mother used to have this one on vinyl....

Annie's version of The Monkees' Daydream Believer was a hit on Top 40 radio in 1980. Her country pop sound kept crossover to Top 40 radio.

Yeah, I remember one time she had a concert in Central Park. She picked a young and upcoming rocker to open for her.
That rocker was Bruce Springsteen.
Needless to say, Ms. Murray was not very successful following The Boss.

Very very saccharine, but I will admit Snowbird and Could I have this dance are two of my guilty favourites. The line "Spread your tiny wings and fly away" has always made me go all gooey. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

uh, uh . . . you are so wrong.
As Tony mentioned Ms. Murray's career started in the early 70's with Songbird being her first hit I believe. She's, OK. She sung a song in the movie starting George C. Scott and Faye Dunaway called, 'Oklahoma Crude' , I liked very much. The song, "Send a Little Love My Way" was written by Henri Mancini.
