Effects on "If 6 Was 9"

I know there's some guitar gurus on the org and here's a simple question for you.

I'm curious as to what effects Jimi is using on "If 6 Was 9" to provide that metallic, grunge sound. I know there's plenty of reverb on it, but I am specifically referring to the sound during the verses. Anyone know what I'm talking about? smile

It's only his old Plexi amp, Strat and a lot of reverb. It sounds like that metallic sound is just amp eq tweaked a little bit. You can try to turn your wah pedal on and use it as a filter, it will help you get that sound.

You're welcome. Jimi didn't use many pedals back in the days, just some fuzz, octavizer and wah - those were his regular effects. You've got to have single coil pickups, they'll give you that crunchy sound. It's much harder with humbuckers, but as I said, it could help to step on your wah and leave it in the + position (Jimmy Page used that trick very often). Use only natural amp distortion, this is clean sound wink
