omg listening again..its constant autotune starting around 1:23

And I would think that Annie is the last person who needed that effect on her vocals. Ugh.
I'm not feeling this particular cut, and I've been on bit of a Eurythmics kick lately too. [Edited 11/13/10 18:44pm]

I personally love it. I like the vocal treatment on "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman", gives it nice sorta ominous, dramatic feel. This album was obviously a labor of love, it comes through in the songs. I think it will end up being viewed as a classic Christmas album in the years to come. * * *

I like it, specially the pagan instruments she's placed through out the disc. Universal Child is great. It's very non christian christmas album. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

I'm a huge Annie fan so I will probably end up buying this but this is a fuckin frightening rendition. I don't mean poorly done, I mean fuckin scary...music to perform human sacrifices by. A bloody xmas to everyone!

Yes! That's what I thought, too. I read an interview with her where she said she was concious of old pagan aspects of the season while making the album, which I thought was really cool. I really like this version and I don't get why people think autotune is such a big deal. We KNOW that Annie can sing - she used the chosen affects strictly to create atmosphere and it works well (imo). I'm not going to dismiss every single song or artist who uses autotune because Jay-Z decided he doesn't like it. The Beastie Boys have used effects on their vocals for twenty years and I love it. Prince has been doing it for even longer. It's how you use them, not THAT you use them, that causes problem for some "artists".

Annie discussing the video. I'll post the article where she was discussing the album if I can find the dang thing...
Annie Lennox Gets 'Mythical' in 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' -- Video Premiere Posted on Nov 9th 2010 6:15AM by Michael D. Ayer http://www.spinner.com/2010/11/09/annie-lennox-god-rest-ye-merry-gentlemen-video/
Most artists that record holiday albums don't necessarily take the time to record a music video, but Annie Lennox isn't like others. In advance of the release of her new album, 'A Christmas Cornucopia,' Lennox has filmed a new clip for her take on the classic song 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.' The visual is something of an animated, old-world hybrid thing that she shot utilizing the magic of green screens.
Indeed, the video features Lennox frolicking around with flute and drum players and a large Jesus-type figure. She reveals that her time spent being filmed was only limited to a couple of days but that post-production took quite awhile.

Look what I just paid way too much for. I tried to find it locally but I got either, "yes we have it on CD", even though I asked if they had it on vinyl, or "no, I didn't know it was available on vinyl". I'll probably see it in three stores next week, but whatever! It may be somewhat limited and I love the idea of having a new Christmas record on vinyl. Check out the video, too. The booklet is what finally sold me.

Money well spent, oh how I miss the big art on vinyl.

Picked this up over the weekend.
It saddens me that I now own an album by Annie that I will hardly ever play.
I wish she'd gone a bit more "There Must be an Angel" in feel for a Xmas album than Missionary Man (Pagan Mix). If I sacrificed virgins I'd play it a lot.

contrary to what some may think it's not dark or pagan at all. most of the songs are christian songs with a traditonal overtone to them. nothing dark or pagan whatsoever. Annie's voice is the true horror of this album. It's so bad it makes it diffucult for me to listen to it. [Edited 11/28/10 15:02pm]

I'm just referring to the feel. I find the style in which it's performed very dark (for Xmas music). It is not a light happy-go-lucky uplifting and sentimental album. These are the things I like (corny as it may be) to hear during christmas.
