I was looking at the Legends folder on Chuckii Booker's Facebook page and read about him meeting Prince and his many influences. Very, very cool indeed. you might want to check out his entire Legends folder. Amazing

Sorry about that BK

(as quoted from Chuckii)

Prince.

Not since Stevie Wonder has one man generated such musicality & musicianship as well as dynamic flare and showmanship. a TRUE living legend. He is what you call the complete artist by any standard. Honestly, he deserves SO much more in my opinion but hey.. who am i? Is there anyone out there who can do what he has done ?

No...

That is what makes him "The Artist of a lifetime"

There have been many influences musically in my life as i have stated before but none come stronger during my late teens than Prince. First it was Barry White, Stevie Wonder, Bootsy Collins .. then Prince.

The first time i met Prince was backstage at the then called Universal Ampitheatre in Los Angeles during the 1999 tour. Along with Kipper Jones (lead singer of TEASE) we waited with Fred Moultrie who was working with TEASE at the time.

Prince had a cool energy about him when I shook his hand and smiled and said "nice meeting you".

Prince has no idea what kind of energy he gave me at that time. It was amazing and I'll never forget it.

Hey P, we'll get that jam session one day smile

ps. Dont matter which instrument either.

Prince,

LIVING LEGEND

Very cool compliment...

Ya know, it's really starting to bug me that Prince is compared to so many peeps...

He is clearly above and beyond anyone who has ever walked this earth, at any time...musically speaking. And, yes, i really believe that.

No disrespect to Stevie Wonder...I think he's great, but he's not even in the same realm.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Yeah it would be pretty hard to be in the same realm when Stevie was the blueprint that bore the future to be the musician Prince eventually became

What r u saying???....Yes, Stevie is OLDER.

Prince is BETTER.

He's better than Jimi on guitar and a better musician than Stevie.

But, I'm not trying to have this conversation AGAIN....just saying that it's bugging me, that's all.

Who cares what I say, this thread is about what Chuckii said....discuss that.

Don't know about being better than Jimi on GUITAR, but as an artist/entertainer etc, yeah.

Stevie's a better songwriter and singer.

No. And i base that on many factors, one being that P is the most versatile in both categories and has his own style to add to it. Stevie can be imitated as a whole....can Prince?

I wasn't talkin 'bout age I'm sayin that Stevie's skill as a musician scared the hell out of some of the best from the time he was 12 years old to this day. Very few were playin the things those two were playin and have created. Next to Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Ray Charles, and Johnny Guitar Watson, Stevie was one of the first who could do it himself which paved the way for muscians Prince, Rick James, Lenny Kravitz, and Shuggie Otis. As far as being better than Jimi, 4 the last 30 years we know Prince has looked at people sideways when they've said/asked him that like all the other guitarists after Jimi who've gotten that comparison (SRV, Robin Trower, Frank Marino, Ernie Isley, Eric Gales, Eddie Hazel). With that said I'd love to hear Chuckii and Prince on a song or a jam biggrin

Agreed. And I love Stevie for reals. But I think Prince edges him out just a bit on both fronts. More on the singing side. Again, I dig Stevie, but he pretty much just does Stevie. Very little variation to his singing in his 40 year career.

lol Well, we need to talk about the women being sexist thread. If you understood where I'm coming from, what I think feminism has done to men (particularly in America) in the last 40 years I'm pretty sure we'd mostly be in agreement. ...but that's a conversation for another time. lol

As far as Stevie goes, like I said, I love Stevie. I have three copies of Songs In The Key Of Life. Two on vinyl (bought used and one side of one of the records had a terrible scratch that I couldn't see when I purchased it) and one on CD. I've also got several other 70s and 80s released on vinyl and a double CD greatest hits thing from a few years ago. I do dig some Stevie. But can you honestly say that his voice isn't exactly the same on every song? Or that he's stuck to a pretty singular style of writing? Anyway, I'm not one for comparing artists. I just go off personal taste. And you know I'm not some slavish fam. I know Stevie came first and I know where Prince's influences lie. For me, Prince would still come first in both of those categories.
