Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On http://www.youtube.com/wa...KPoHgKcqag
Has to be one of the most used songs for commercials ever but I'm listening to it now and it is definitely a song that will remain a classic-I it You could definitely feel the emotion in Marvin when he sung it Any love for Marvin's classic? I think I like the live version better

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The demo version was going to be a repeat of the social issues Marvin was exploring earlier that era. It was also initially a gospel song Ed Townsend had wrote by his lonesome. Elgie Stover wrote the lyrics to what became the demo. Ed then argued "this song is not about politics! This is about making love!" And that's when Ed and Marvin produced new lyrics. To be honest even the version that was released still had social elements ("since we've got to be, let's live"). Free love can be seen as a social issue sometimes. [Edited 11/9/10 19:39pm]

The reason why I don't care for it anymore,,,,,,damn near EVERY lame commercial/movie featured that song and Barry White's "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More" to give their product some hipness I guess.
They have ran those two great songs to the ground with redundancy.

That's why I barely watch commercials featuring those songs anymore. There comes a point when you overdo it.

Are you kidding? I play Marvin all the time...including this song. And I don't currently have a TV so I've never heard that commercial...and don't want to. Nobody can ruin this song for me! Yeah they have done these great songs a disservice by using them so damn much.

I still love it too-even after all the stupid uses of it

I'm glad they re-worked the song I prefer the "making love version"

The ideal pre-distribution of sperm song.
Find the remainder of the album pretty underwheming. [Edited 11/11/10 18:42pm]

Did you know that Herbie Hancock actually played keyboards on this album? And that he actually met Wah-Wah Watson there during these sessions; they would work together soon afterwards because of this.

Yeah he did. I gotta check album credits because I think the keyboardists in the original album were Marvin and Joe Sample (I know Joe played on "Let's Get It On" the single I believe). [Edited 11/12/10 12:17pm]
