Christina Aguilera To Get Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame

christina aguilera walk e1289472335184 Christina Aguilera To Get Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame

While 2010 has undeniably been difficult for Christina Aguilera, the Pop diva looks set to close the year on a hight note. For, it has today been announced that she will be the 2,423rd figure to receive a star on Hollywood’s iconic Walk of Fame.

Full story after the jump…

Honoured for her contributions to the recording industry, Aguilera will be presented the star during a special ceremony on November 15th. Interestingly, this comes little over a week before her new movie ‘Burlesque’ hits theatres across the US on November 24th.

—————————————

Congratulations are most certainly in order for Christina. Indeed, say what you will, yet it’s hard to deny that she deserves such an accolade.

Randomness: On the topic of ‘deserving it’, it’s interesting to point out that – as at writing – the likes of Whitney Houston and Mary J. Blige don’t have stars on the walk, while the likes of Destiny’s Child and Britney Spears do. Things that make you go hmm.

Important to highlight, though, is the fact that spots on the Walk aren’t simply handed out on the basis of talent/success alone – contrary to popular belief. It’s a process; one which sees labels/management not only have to nominate acts themselves, yet also have to cough up money to the tune of $25,000 to “sponsor” the plaque (the ceremony, its upkeep, and any repairs). The aforementioned, reportedly, is why Whitney Houston declined the offer several years ago (wanting instead to wait until she’s ‘inactive’ and awarded it on her legendary merit alone).

Anyway, back to Christina…

This is nothing against Christina Aguilera, but didn't this "honor" used to mean something? I remember growing up hearing about the 'Walk Of Fame' thinking it was something special, important, rare. Maybe it never was. Maybe it's always been basically meaningless. Not sure. But most of the people they add to it these days (which also seems like a lot more than it used to be) don't really do much for me.

I always thought the Walk Of Fame was more of a way for fans to express appreciation, more than something an artist "earned" like a Grammy or whatever. Isn't it usually fanclubs that pay for them?

That's what I'm saying. When I was a kid it seemed like a big deal. The "mythical" Hollywood walk of fame. Now it's holds no interest for me. I'm wondering if it's always been this way and I just thought it was cool because I didn't know any better. lol

Well they did give Elton John a star after just five years after his first hit but then again people actually became "legends" in that short time (maybe because of their talent and exposure, plus Elton had like 15 albums by that point lol). But as we all know now, you have to get paid to get a star there so it was probably like that then.

You mean Whitney didn't want anyway stepping on her crack!

Well it's not that Christina is not talented but my bullshit meter just went off the scale.

I really need someone to sponsor one for Aaliyah, who really deserves the accolade.

ohgoon

The entire process of securing a star seems a big, vain joke anymore.

Whitney is nuts, but if her reasoning is truly that she'd rather be awarded the star when she's considered a legend in career retrospect, I absolutely applaud her for that.

falloff Exactly! If Britney can get one than anyone with real talent should get one and nobody should say shit about it. Hell, Lassie has one too and she was a dog. Seriously, fans nominate their favorite celebrity and it only costs $25,000 to actually purchase the star.

Seriously, the could give a star to Snooki from 'Jersey Shore' because according to this site, she qualifies.

But has it always been that way? That's what I'm trying to figure out. It seems like once upon a time it was only people who had been famous for a long time, or even those that were considered important. I think there's a certain section from way back that is still just those people, too. But for the most part now it's just, anybody! I suppose that brings foot traffic to the neighborhood and shops. Not like they needed anymore, though.

lol As many monikers as that man has taken on over the span of his career, there ain't no way I'm paying to put a name on any sidewalk that he may change a week later. Prince and his spontaneous moments of oddness.

Oscars and Grammys used to mean something. The Hollywood Walk of Fame has had a star for Big Bird and Kermit the Frog for decades now so that about sums up how important it is. lol

falloff Muppets are extremely important. They taught me my colors, numbers, and alphabet...I was so over prepared for kindergarten it was ridiculous. lol Personally, I'm a Grover and Cookie Monster fan myself.

This is the list of 25 stars added in 2009

http://www.associatedcont...tml?cat=38

Who the hell dropped $25 grand to put Tinkerbell and the Village People on a sidewalk? Mofos got money to burn like that because I didn't know the Village People still had that many fans but stranger things have occurred. shrug

I think it's always been a popularity contest more than anything else. It's only special because the fans get to see their favorite star immortalized in concrete and the celebrity gets to see how loved they are which is nice for all involved I guess.
