Process & the Doo Rags

Were these guys any good? We had an arguement going andI was told they were just a time rip off.

I heard 'Stomp - Shout' sounded pretty good. So true funk fans can yall tell me some infor on these guys? I can't find much on the net about them.

They were a Rick James side project. Never really caught fire (although he had high hopes for them at the time). They only released one album.

The association with Rick might have been the problem. Fans were expecting the "Rick Experience" & it wasn't that kind of record.

Wasn't personally my cup of tea either.

Actually...2 albums, my bad (85 & 87...have em both). Kinda funk meets doo-wop.

Rick came from that doo-wop era so he was trying to do an updated (80s) version of a 50s doo-wop group with a Temptation feel but it didn't work.

The Mary Jane Girls had that 50s girl group sound, JoJo sound like she could've sung in that era but it was for that time they (MJG) were very "provocative" like Vanity 6 and the music was much better than for Vanity 6 and Process and the Doo Rags.

They have a few decent tracks, "too sharp" happens to be my favorite.

Their albums have far too many ballads and lack the funk that I desire, although Rick was trying to capture the old school doo wop sound as thatruth already mentioned.

You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!
