Luther Vandross - Dance With My Father

Hi people.

The Luther Vandross Song - Dance With My Father has a deep resonance for me this month. it is the second anniversary of the sudden passing of my father at the end of November, and the third anniversary of the equally sudden loss of my mother a few days before that. It is a very difficult time of year, especially so near to Christmas. I'm putting together a compilation of suitable tracks to help me through the bereavement. So far I have.

Immortality - Celine Dion

Try to Remeber - Andy Williams

You have been Loved - George Michael

Unforgettable - Nat King Cole

Miss you most (at Christmas time) - Mariah Carey

Over the Rainbow - Eva Cassidy

The Living Years - Mike and the mechanics

Smile - Nat King Cole

These are the days of our lives - Queen

Who wants to lve forever - Queen

There you'll be - Faith Hill

One Sweet Day - Mariah and Boyz II to men

How do I live - LeAnn Rimes

Gone too Soon - Michael Jackson

I find your love - Beth Neilson Chapman

Can any of you think of other appropriate songs. The main Prince ones i have thought of already

Ideas?....

About the loss of a loved one?

Do you mean "I'll Be There"?

If ur into older gospel music try the Rev. James Cleveland's I Stood On The Banks of Jordan-kinda puts it all into perspective. It's a part of life we all must see and go through wink

Eva Cassidy's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" totally trumps the original, I love it...and good choice! Another song U might want to consider is Roberta Flack's version (or George Michael's) version of "The 1st time ever I saw your face" I always have a vision in my head, of my Mom singing this to me...

If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

Maybe it is just me and my thinking but when I listen to it I remember my mother.

Empty Room by Prince is the first thing that popped in my mind.

That song is TOO much to be left collecting dust in the vault.

To be fair, it was "released." Only as a "live" performance, though. I am not a big fan of the studio version of that song, but I love how he sings it live.

I wish I could hear the original version from 86, I think the other studio version was re-recorded in 93(the one you're talking about I assume).

Its such a heart wrenching song, esp the version he performed in Celebrations circa 2002.

Promise to Try by Madonna is one that you would probably appreciate. It's a sad piano ballad about saying goodbye to a loved one.

Lately, I've grown very fond of the Gospel song, "Goin' Up Yonder." Chaka's version (on Youtube) is mind-blowing, but there are also versions by The Clark Sisters and the Mississippi Mass Choir. Additionally, "I Look To You" by Whitney and "Wild Horses" by Susan Boyle strike chords with me. Good luck and God Bless you through your sadness. xo

I went through this three years ago with my mother and do the same thing you do on the anniversary of her death. This one is totally appropriate....

I like to pep things up also. Speeding it up and getting on down relieves a lot of pain and more people should do it. This one is the jam for the occassion....
