Half-empty?? You're being too kind. Shit, there'll be crickets chirping in the arena. lol

With Michael gone, Janet's the only Jackson I'd pay to see in concert.

Michael and Janet were really the only real stars in that family IMHO. Even from young ages, you can tell which ones would go far and which ones wouldn't.

Jermaine too(at least in the J5 days).

Jermaine did have potential, don't get me wrong, he would've been the third biggest star in the family if ego didn't get in his way. Then we would've been talking about three Jacksons instead of two but of course that didn't go so well after the Jackson 5 split and Motown put Jermaine mainly in the back burner. Then "Thriller" happened and his ego took over and that was the beginning of the end.

If Jermaine could do it all over again, he was better off being a serious r&b/soul artist and not even bother trying to do the crossover pop thing so much.

For every Michael/Lionel Ritchie/Prince kind of artist that can risk doing the crossover, there is Jermaine/Luther Vandross/Rick James kind of artist that is (IMHO) better off staying in the r&b/soul circle, say "f*** a crossover", and still be successful. wink

Why is a 59-year-old using autotune? Is there a link?

[Edited 11/7/10 16:41pm]

LOL! Teena Marie's 54 and she just dabbled with Autotune on her "Milk & Honey" joint from "Congo Square," her latest CD. That would make her 5 years his junior. smile

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

here i am showing my age again! biggrin

i was janet's age when the j5 variety show was on and here's what i remember: one, up until then, i had had no idea the j5 had sisters. two, even though i knew about jermaine, he wasn't missed; marlon stepped up to sing his parts without missing a beat! and three, janet and mj were the only ones people talked about. you're right, even from young ages, you could tell which two were headed places.

I avoided that album mainly because of that. There were reported fights between Jackie and Jermaine over who got to sing lead on the tracks. Of course they didn't let it be known there was bickering to the press. Trying to keep that public image of togetherness is hard work when you know it's not actually accurate. They tried to do a tour and it bombed. I remember reading about it on Margaret's book.

On the Family Dynasty series, Katherine said Jackie and Jermaine have been at each others throast since they were kids. They even stopped talking for about half a year after Jermain stayed at Motown (or the Jacksons left for CBS, however you wanna put it.)

well that answers my question as to why they didn't go far after mj's departure. i don't blame jackie for not wanting to cede territory to jermaine; he's the one who left the group first, leaving jackie, mj and randy to pick up the mantle via their songwriter and propel the jackson name farther, which they did very successfully. jermaine's re-entry to the jacksons circa 1984 was rank opportunism at its worst.

'yeah, come back to the group, jermaine, after we've put in the hard work proving ourselves, and pick up a check that's been equally split between the five or six of us, and sing songs that you didn't even help write, and pretend that you're still the second lead.'

You said exactly what I wanted to say,but I didn't wanna be the first to say it lol

I find it strange how the brothers have been laying low all these years, but now all of a sudden, they're releasing new music and planning comebacks. It seems to me that they're trying to cash in on MJ's death. They know that the world is paying attention to the Jackson family right now and they're taking advantage of that. It's shameful and pathetic.

disbelief

and I can't help think that after LaToya raided the house shortly after MJ's demise - they hauled out bags of unfinished, unreleased material that MJ was working on - to divy up and call their own. Ridiculous I know, but it did go thru my mind.

i remember frank dileo talking about that to rollingstone mag. she apparently confiscated the computers that were there, and at the time frank was talking to them, she hadn't turned them over to the estate. the family couldn't seem to understand that mj's stuff didn't belong to them after his death; all his owned property was put into a trust, even when he was alive, i think. even if there was no trust, the property still wouldn't be theirs, it would be his kids'.

Where's the audio? It beats me, but I have seen the video of a van near the mansion, after his death maybe once or twice, and couldn't believe it disbelief

And let's not forget the sight of Joe Jackson, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson carrying on laughing just a day after his son is pronounced dead. confused Maybe that's just coincidental...but I don't know.

OFF-TOPIC: Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton are.......

Boule. lurking
