U2 Offer Limited Edition Vinyl EP

November 4, 2010

U2 have joined the ever-growing list of rock icons to throw their weight behind this year's Record Store Day. In support of the event, which takes place on November 26, Bono and company will offer up a limited edition 12-inch vinyl record available only through independent record stores.

The special release, titled Wide Awake in Europe, features live tracks from the Irish rockers including three tracks from the recent European leg of the band's ongoing 360° Tour. Each album in the very limited run will be hand numbered.

This isn't actually RSD 2010 - that already happened. But RSD has become so succesful for independent retailers that they're doing a second event this year on Black Friday in an attempt to get all those people who are already out spending money into the shops. Here's a list (which is still growing all the time) of the exclusives out that day...

What are the odds that 20TEN would be released on vinyl?

Awesome, thanks! I'd MUCH rather hit up Electric Fetus on Black Friday than Wal-Mart (will NEVER make that mistake again!!!!!!).

I have to do Best Buy this year and I am SOOOO not looking forward to it. We make it an event, though. Take food and folding chairs, head over in the middle of the night (usually around 3). Plus, our Best Buy AWESOMELY comes around with vouchers for all the hottest items before the doors open. They pay attention to who is where in line, go in order, and you're allowed to get as many items as you want (of course you still may not get them all, but it helps). Monster was there giving away free drinks all night the last time I participated, too. Still, I generally try to avoid all of the big box Black Friday sales like a pile of rotting plague bodies. You can generally find what you want via the online sales anyway. But my neice and nephew are both getting their first laptops this year, so I gotta do it. Siiigh. lol

I hope some version of it is released on vinyl at some point, but I doubt it will happen that quickly. This (RSDs) is the kind of thing that Prince should totally be involved in, too. But without any support from a label it's clearly not going to happen. I mean, he could EASILLY do something himself. Something really cool and limited that supported indie shops. Something small and on the low. But he won't. lol It's just not his style.

sigh

Well, there's always the hope that Prince himself could be reading this (he's rumored to do so occassionally I understand) and maybe he could say; "Great idea! I'll do it!"

Could you IMAGINE how awesome it would be to buy a purple-vinyl edition of 20TEN?
