'FRIDA'..the soundtrack...BEAUTIFUL! I have been listening to this CD non-stop since I got it for Xmas. The music really captures you. Especially in the movie where most of the soundtrack is used to great effect! The music captures early 1900's Mexico..especially the old songs the artists sing on.
Lila Downs (singer in the movie) is just an amazing Mexican vocialist who I had the privelige of meeting last year and seeing her perform to an audience of 20 in a very intimate setting. Her album BORDER is a moving and at times disturbing view of the immigrant situation on the Mexican/American border. The soundtrack also features Chavela Vargas (who plays 'La Muerte'/'Death' in the movie)...an 85 year old Costa Rican singer who Frida Khalo had a relationship with. Her versions of 'La Llorona' and 'Paloma Negra' really bring on the goosebumps. Just wanted to express my thoughts on such a beautiful soundtrack. Much props to Salma Hayak and Elliot Goldenthal for an amazing piece of work. VIVA FRIDA! Every minute of last night is on my face today....

Salma was robbed at the Golden Globes, that cunt Nicole Kidman got the award 4 best actress...and owes all her fame 2 Tom Cruise 4 dumping her... Salma is nominated 4 the Screen Actor's Guild award 4 Best Actress... she'd better win! ...and I better hear her name called when Oscar comes 'round!!! |

I agree..it would have been nice to see Salma get something. She put alot of blood, sweat, tears and YEARS into this movie. Watching FRIDA really showed me the depth of Salma's acting...I forgot all about that 'Wild Wild West' film...LOL... We'll see what happens with SAG and Oscar. It's be cool to see a Latina win the Best Actress award (first time since Rita Moreno for WEST SIDE STORY...if I'm not wrong)...but the acadamy is really into Nicole this year...esp since she didnt win last year...this is their time to 'make it up' to her... Every minute of last night is on my face today....

It took me forever 2 forgive Salma 4 that lame movie...but, she's so hot, I forgave her. The story behind the making of the film is incredible... especially the fact she produced it, and how long it took her 2 get the rights 2 produce this film! Especially when Madonna and J.Lo both showed interest in making this film... I'm glad the "powers that be" saw fit 2 give this beautiful Latina a chance, and with her star power and her "Hollywood" strings...she was able 2 coax several 'A-List' actors 2 take parts in this film and work 4 scale. Antonio Banderas, Ashley Judd (who was brilliant in it) and, of course, her boyfriend Edward Norton. There's so many others 2! This film deserves much more respect than it's been getting... a beautiful film, I urge all 2 check it out! |

This film deserves much more respect than it's been getting... a beautiful film, I urge all 2 check it out! THANK YOU! I made it a requirement for all my friends to see it. I offered to pay and go with them. I've gone 3 times and I'm sure I'll go a couple more. I read the PREMIERE article about J.Lo and Maddy (I figured M would have interest...she's long been a fan of Frida's and Diego's work) I'm so relieved that Jenny did not make the film. That would've sucked. It takes a person with genuine passion and love for Frida and art to pull such a role off. Ashley, Antonio, Alfred Molina...they were all fantastic...also Geofery Rush (sp) The movie better recieve something for the visual aspect of the film. The use of color was incredible and the bus accident scene took my breath away...it was both extremely tragic and breathtaking. OK...I'll stop...I could go on about the film but I wont...LOL... peace! Every minute of last night is on my face today....

According to Vougue Magazine a few months back, Chevela Vargas claimed to be one of Frieda Kahlo's husband's later lovers, not the artist herself...
