It's a shame Berry didn't allow the Funks to release their own albums, they definitely would've been stiff competition for Stax's Booker T. & the MG's.
This is the instrumental of Junior Walker's "Home Cookin'".

You know Berry had to be the biggest asshole ever to not let me release anything, but at the sametime, as Marvin said time and time again, the man knew how to make money. Don't see why he could've made more by letting the Funk Brothers release their own stuff though.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Exactly. Why didn't he?
Because Berry's a dickhead.

He was a control freak but still I think Motown could've benefit.
Not when they saw how much more money that could have made.
You know it's a damn shame that until "What's Going On" no one knew who was behind the music and even after Motown moved from Detroit to L.A., no one knew who was behind the music until "Standing in the Shadows" and by that point most of them (including Jamerson) had passed away.
