Why the hate for Unsung/TV One's female CEO? Noticed some people ahve issues with TV One and their female CEO. Can someone enlighten me why the hate against her? I know nothing about her.

I love Unsung.
And I don't hate Cathy, I just hate her interviewing skills. She's about THEE worst interviewer I could think of; her feedback terminology boils down to "yes", "mmhmm" and her signature "ooooh okay" followed by a nod. Given the fact that she owns TVOne, she could hire a skilled interviewer to do that job.
That being said, her interview with Dick Gregory was good,,,,but only because the man could dictate any discussion he engages in no matter who interviews him.

I think a lot of people dislike Cathy mostly for her business practices. Especially on the radio side. She has burned a lot of bridges with former employees (business execs and talent alike). I know several people in radio that dislike her because she has tried not to pay them, didn't pay them, or their checks bounced. I understand that it is tough to meet payroll at times, but bouncing checks on a corporate level is just bad business.
TV-One's original shows are put together pretty badly (overall). Sure, some of them are good, but they just don't do their research like they should. Especially on "Unsung". How are you going to have the Shalamar story and leave out why Jody was fighting with the other members? How are you going to air the Angela Winbush story and lead people to think Stephanie Mills originally did "(I've Learned To Respect) The Power of Love?" That's just bad writing/research.
Also, why would you give Omorosa a show and make it seem like a spinoff of The Apprentice and film and edit is so poorly? **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

You know what I've noticed with most "Unsung" shows, they seem to take info from Wikipedia and don't do any more research.

But yeah daPrettyMan pretty much said why people have a dislike/disdain for Cathy. [Edited 11/2/10 9:49am]

You are so right. Hell, they have the resources. Have they not heard of the Billboard books? How about asking Angela how Stephanie ended up with the song? How about asking her who she wrote for before she got famous? That's the kind of crap I don't like. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

^ No.
If you saw our past threads about Ms. Hughes or in threads that discussed her, it was more than that. I wouldn't hate her for saying that about Beyonce.

Oh yes, now I remember.
Did you read Dionne Warwick's open letter to Cathy regarding that issue? She went all the way in without spit. [Edited 11/2/10 11:30am]

My first experience with Ms. Hughes was watching her interview Mary J Blidge. Horrible. I was in awe at how horrible of an interview and show it was. Then I found out about her business practices and then found out she's a Republican who heavily campaigned against Obama and I was done with her. She's go the right to believe what she wants and I have the right avoid it. Space for sale...

She has this arrogant aura about her that is just annoying.

Unsung had promise but it sucks. (IMHO)

I forgot about that. Dionne let her have it. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Stephanie Mills originally did I've Learned To Respect the Power Of Love as far as i know. Angela wrote the song but Stephanie sung it on her Stand Back album of 1985. Angela sung her version of it on 1989 The Real Thing. Unless Angela recorded an obscure version of it before Stephanie that i don't know of it's safe to say Stephanie sung it first although Angela's the writer. As far as Jody fighting with the other members, i don't think that was nearly as important as the success of the group especially since Jody has only recently started whining about Shalamar publicy the past few years oddly since her time is up as a solo artist. Uh, this is why YouTube can be a HELP!
So Stephanie covered it.

Jody had a chance to say whatever she wanted and chose not to; good grief that woman needed to shut her piehole.

The thing is SHE DID say what she wanted to say, but Unsung/TV-ONE decided to edit her statements. She has a YT video explaining her point of view of the episode.
As for Jody, she still does pretty well on the dance circuit (when she releases something). [Edited 11/2/10 17:24pm] **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

No she didn't D'. I saw the Ms. Wately YouTube postings.
Ms Watley was critical of how the TV1 told their story, who wasn't interviewed, and how TV1 edited a "story" she felt didn't tell the truth. I think those were fair criticism. When that episode aired originally, many Orger's were critical of Ms. Watley for being less than candid. I thought then, Ms. Watley wanted to take the "high road", let sleeping dogs lie since she had the last laugh. Later this chick comes back on YouTube hemming and hawing about "they" didn't tell the truth, 'they should have spoken with road manager' and " Dave Griffey" said, there was drama'. Well damn, it's YOUR story it happened to you, why didn't you tell us what happened?
She still hasn't "dish the dirt", she still talking in circles, and in many respects lying along with David Griffey, Jeffery Daniel, and Howard Hewett. She claimed (in one of those videos) it was too painful and embarrassing to speak about it. OK, fine, than shut up or write a book.
Really this was the Unsung that made step away from watching the mess all together. It appears Ms. Hughes has brought her inept interviewing skills to these lowball docudramas.
