As far as i can see, my copy shows 1980 printed on it.

" Before being licenced for distribution nationally by GEC Records in Chicago, this album was first pressed in small numbers locally
by the tiny independant Texas based Lucky Records label. This GEC press is the second run of the title. "

Same seem to have happened with the group below.

When you start listing stuff from 80-84, it is just STULTIFYING.

The "industry" hasn't managed as much quality output as we got in any 6 months during that time in the last entire DECADE (maybe longer).

Current charts are a pathetic drooling embarassment by comparison (pick any genre).

And you guys are being generous...sticking just to the albums released.

Start digging into the 12"s / one-off singles from 80-84 & you have another whole amazing thread lol

Don't get me started lol ... i'd be posting here for days. As for you previous post, i think there's an amount of interesting independent releases by some current artists who promote their work

on their own, through cdbaby, etc. I listen to an online station such as www.solarradio.com (though not as often as before), and if you think of it, then this station does actually some good

exploring for listeners in advance. By recording occasionally some shows or noting an artist or song which is played, i've been informed about excellent releases from the independent area.

Its funny reading this thread, and then remember this article I read about MJ's Thriller being the wake of a dead industry(post-disco) and that there weren't ANY good records being produced. That it was similar to the drought we're suffering from now.

And whats crazy is everybody seem to co-sign with that notion, WTF, 80-82 gave life to albums that still shine some inspiration on young & upcoming artists.

I agree...there's always good shit if you're willing to dig. My point is tho.....just the comparitive VOLUME & quality of stuff from that time. Dig all ya want, the 2010 list is just a TAD shorter & less impressive than 1980.

I'm dubious that much of the last decade's output will continue to inspire 30 years on.

They generalize it as if 1980-1982 had bad music or something. They had great music and R&B records were crossing over to pop even if not to the degree that MJ's got. To be frank, they credit MJ for being the "answer" to a recession that was going on then.

Its a new notion that appeared in the aftermath of MJ's death, damn near every tribute article that talks about him, puts light on that so-called notion. The discussions in Afronerd's blogtalk radio spot, is the top of my head.

Sorry to bring MJ in this thread btw lol the police here are touchy about his mentions.

The other sad thing, these songs sound just as fresh today and better than anything released in the past 15 years. Thats my opinion and i'm sticking to it.
