"Get The Funk Out Ma Face" (12 Inch) by The Brothers Johnson
When this jams breaks down after the regular version ends, if your ass don't move, then you've been listening to Shitney Houston for too many years. Andy is a four letter word.

This 12" version kicks ass! The album version is much too short.

Actually, the extended version was first released on a 7"/45rpm! It didn't come out on a 12" till years later.

Pretty sure that's what's pictured above, actually. Regardless, the album version is the only way I've ever heard this song. I'm now in love with this version, though. Funky! Added it to my hunt list.

In all the years since this song came out, I have never gotten over how completely funky it is. Even has "FUNK" in the title, lol. I believe this song would easily be in my "Top 25 Funkiest Songs Ever" list.

Buyers beware: the extended version of "Get The Funk Out Ma Face" appeared on this 1987 compilation....
but when this compilation was remastered/reissued in the 90s,the single edit was included instead

Not really. You can find these easily, because this was the only way to get the single. The weird thing is, A&M didn't put any notice on the label that this was different than the LP version. The buzz came from people that just happen to buy this and telling their friends about it. Word of mouth spread like wild fire and people started to scoop this up by the 1000's. It remained in print for a long time in 76/77. Yeah, you can find this on several various "Funk" CD compilations.
Here's an MP3 you can download on Amazon.

It woulda been so much easier if they had just included the extended version on the album even if it meant removing a song

I know, why go through the trouble to press an extended version on a 7" and not promote it. They never released the "LP Version" on a 7". [Edited 10/27/10 6:56am]

It's an excellent compilation, much better than other compilations that came later. In addition to the extended version of "Get The Funk Outta My Face",it also includes a longer version of "Strawberry Letter #23" (lengthier than the album version).
