I received my first Sony Walkman along with my first cassette tape: Bobby Brown "Don't Be Cruel" album...in 1988...I was 6 years old. I received a newer one in 1990 or 1991 I believe either my 8th or 9th birthday and that was along with the MC Hammer album "Please Hammer Don't Hurt'em" cassette tape. I still have the latter walkman, it's at my mother's house I believe...that is if she hasn't thrown it out. lol Still have the Bobby Brown tape, tossed the Hammer one when he sold out. lol

shite, I never got a "Walkman". I had a Walkman wannabe.

you know, {stating to feel indignant}

I am starting to feel deprived... I never got a Walkman. I have never even seen a real Walkman in person before. I think my parents should have bought me a dayum Walkman back in the day!

Oh, and now I am really getting pissed since the Walman was release on my 13th birthday. What the hell???!!!! Why couldn't they get me a Walman??? fit

I don't have one anymore but I still have my very first Polaroid One Step Camera. Remember, the white one with the little rainbow strip down the front and you would put a strip of five flashbulbs on top of it? I doubt they even still make film or the flashbulb strip for it anymore but I found it in a closet when I moved and kept it in case it was a collector's item or something. lol

mistatee

One of my first walkmans didn't have a reverse function.

Only play, stop and ffwd.

So to rewind you had to flip over the tape and ffwd. Turn it back to the other side and play.

I had no idea they even still made these. shrug

I never had a Sony Walkman. The closest I had was a Toshiba equivalent in the late '80s/early '90s. Equalized properly, that thing had extraordinary sound quality.

Mine still looks like that, but not the same brand and I don't have a reel to reel player. My receiver is from 1979 or 1980, the cassette deck is from the late 1980's & the turntable is from 1991. I made it up to a CD changer from the late 1990's. I never got into anything past that. I've never downloaded and I still buy music from the record stores where I live. They still carry records, but since most modern albums are longer, the newer releases are generally double. The one I usually go to even sells picture discs & vinyl remix 12" singles.

sad

Back in High School I dished out over $100 (quite a bit of money for me at the time) for the waterproof "sports" walkman...

...MAN, did I think I was the SHIT strutting around with that at the beach!

nod

And btw Tony, I still have some of my cassettes with music that I'd recorded from the radio. One of my favorite songs of all time ("Bajio" by Celia Cruz & Johnny Pacheco) I first taped off the radio back in college. I spent the next decade trying to find that song on an album, with no success. When I first got internet, one of the first things that I did was log onto mymusic.com to try to buy the track (to no avail). Finally about 5 years ago I found it on Bearshare and downloaded it.

In all that while, I still had my tape. nod

I had that one! lol

Apparently there's no cover, so how do you keep dust from getting in it? For 150 grand, they should of thought of that. lol
