You all go on about "shit hop" and how modern pop music all sucks (and my taste in it sucks) cuz there's apparently nothing to it and it's meaningless drivel but then you say it's got hidden meanings, subliminal references, satanic imagery, they all have a plan, a hidden agenda, a message...so which is it?

Mindless drivel or pre planned "mind control"?

How do you pass them off as talentless/nothing to offer etc while taking them seriously enough to believe the artist/director/whoever would be smart/clever enough to insert imagery, and therefore meaning, into it? You can't say "That video is cheap bullshit but watch it closely for the imagery!" That doesn't even make sense, it's basically saying "That means nothing...except for the meaning behind it". confused

I love hiphop

Kanye sucks

Thats all there is to it.

You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

Wow... that was horrible...

self righteous & narcissistic.

I'll always credit Kanye for tryng to bring substance to the game.

And he is an eclectic cat with a somewhat eclectic personality.

But he's wavering in self indulgence.

This always fuckin happens I swear, Kanye was one of the few cats that tried something different,

sure he was more sample happy than P-diddy, but he brought art to it.

He was the best Alternative to 50.

But now since he "won" that showdown.

He really thinks he's the best, and the music is suffering because of it.

His artistic visions, seems spoiled, and tries too hard to be different.

In excess everything is bad, including so called "artistic" experimentation.

Kanye needs to go back to basics.

He thinks he's Michael Jackson, and sadly is a bit loonier out of touch than Michael was.

Sure the hardcores are gonna love anything he does,

but he's really losing a lot of old fans.

A fall is eminent

Sadly, that's very true. lol

I was like this while watching it: bored

Then I lost my connection for a minute, it stopped playing, and I was like "Meh, forget it."

I bet if he went "back to basics", the Org would be all "Do something interesting already!" Like when Beyonce did Single Ladies and everyone here hated it.

Do not get me started on Beyonce, only reasons shes famous is because of her father.

Nothing against her. Shes just not an artist.

Kanye is...

Just misguided.

But everybody has got to find their own way.

The visuals are nice but the storyline was lacking for me. I give Kanye props for trying to create a short film and not half assing a video like many artist today but this could have been squeezed into a 10-15 minute video i feels some parts were drawn out too long. I could have done without the akward dialogue, the music was good enough.

I agree. Other than that I think the highlight for me was realizing that he's bowlegged looking at the way he was running...kind of turned me on. drool Can't wait for the album though, I'm definitely using my hard earned money to buy it.

'Runaway' Solidifies Kanye West As The Greatest Pop Star Of This Generation

On Saturday night (October 23), Kanye West let loose his ...ast on MTV. "Runaway" is a 35-minute opus starring himself and model Selita Ebanks. In the film, Ebanks plays a phoenix (as in the mythical creature) who crashes to Earth and gets saved by West (who plays a vaguely fictionalized version of himself). The two strike up a relationship that ultimately ends in tragedy. Along the way, the film tosses out all sorts of gorgeously rendered scenes and a handful of mind-bending tracks from West's hotly-anticipated upcoming album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

In fact, the greatness of the music and the stunning quality of the film (combined with West's back catalog and his previous success in the music video realm) have solidified West as unquestionably the greatest pop star of this generation. His music has appealed to hip-hop fans, pop aficionados and rock enthusiasts alike, and his approach to video, fashion and public image have made him an instantly recognizable and unique singularity. His work is constantly evolving, and he has managed to be good at just about everything he has ever tried. And he has consistently gone out on a limb, attempting things that are way outside of his comfort zone. It's even a little obscene to think about West as a "hip-hop producer" at this point, as while that is certainly the universe that gave him his start, he has evolved way, way past that world.

And the great thing is that West doesn't just rely on his incredible talent — he also puts in hard work and takes on challenges. When MTV News' Sway asked..."Runaway," he was up front about everything he had to confront. "Thinking about dressing all of those people. Or finding where the [phoenix] wings were, who would make the wings. Laying the colors, having to go back and forth. Directing myself, 'cause I can make awesome decisions right there," West said. "But when I stand on that piano [in the 'Runaway' scene], I got to make sure Kyle, who is an amazing [director of photography] on this, I got to trust him that he caught that shot the proper way. So it takes a little bit longer, when you have to go around and get behind the camera. So these shots, I would have to go look at it, do it again, look at it again. I had a number of concerns: Is it realistic? Are we getting a good angle? We didn't have Hype Williams-level lighting in that warehouse."

So take a look at West's "Runaway" and try to keep your jaw off the floor. Whether you like it or not, know that you are witnessing the most important pop star of the current generation. He has managed to take popular music and, just like Michael Jackson, Radiohead and others before him, turn it completely on its head while still bringing the rest of the world along with him.

Greatest "Pop Star" of this generation.

I agree to disagree with that sentiment.

If he is, than that just makes him the greatest of a mediocre generation.

It's funny him being called a Pop Star.

feels weird...

Sure if you want to get semantical and anal, it just means Popular Star,

but there is no denying the connotations connected with term Pop Star, supersede that simplistic sentiment.

I mean, I love Kanye, and like alot of his songs.

But its a sad thing when the greatest pop star, makes a living off a recycling music and posing it off as art.

It is what it is.

Though he's managed to impress with his sampling.

He's still sampling

I just feel funny about that.

Then again, it says alot about the world we live in.

Reward mediocrity while the truly creative wallow in obscurity.

Interesting, industry indeed.

Kanye's my man and all but damn! Who wrote that? Was this released by his label? It sounds a little too inflated to me to be unbiased. Surely there was something that could've been better in their observation confused

Anyway, I'm excited to hear the rest of the project. I heard a few good tracks in there that I'm sure will bang nice in the car. Besides, he's working with some legendary hip hop producers on this one. I'm curious to see what they cook up smile

My thing is, sincerity stands on its own legs,,,,,,,whether somebody does go back to basics or try something new. Most of these "mainstream" male artists today are hell bent on taking the MJ throne when they don't even have to. Thats why 90% of I what listen to from them comes off very distant and impersonal.

And thats why the film is kinda hit/miss to me too. I like it for what it is though, the songs are nice and the presentation is visually attractive, it reaffirmed to me that Hype Williams has a brilliant pair of eyes, but I'm still not sure what message this film is trying to convey.
