JANELLE MONAE - The Audition, why was it never released?

Just listening to Janelles Monae's 2003 album The Audition and just thinking how it really deserves an official release.

Does anyone know more about the background of this album, who it was recorded with and why it was never released?

Thanks in advance.

The album was recored at a friends studio in Atlanta, GA. It was only sold by Janelle Monae her self out of a boarding houes she was living in with 5 other girls. She go around to college campus and open night mics and what not in Atlanta peforming the songs and selling the cds afterwards... She ended up selling several thousands copys of the CD just by doing it her self. After that she started her own label (Wondaland Arts Society) and starting working out the Metropolis EP which was orginally released in 2007. Then re-realsed in 2008 when she partner her label with Atlantic/Bad Boy

Excellent information, thanks P2.

So copies of the cd do exist, chances of finding one seem very slim.

Oh well, will have to make do with the download, i love it.

Do you have a copy P2?

It is interesting that even back in 2003 she was singing about androids and stuff.

I would love a cd copy of this, or a download in Flac. Better still, an official release.
