Erykah Badu Rants About Hip-Hop Music

[img:$uid]http://i51.tinypic.com/20z5px3.jpg[/img:$uid]

October 2010

Erykah Badu has now publicly criticized the increasingly popular dance-pop, techno and electronic epidemic that is currently dominating today’s airwaves. The 39-year-old even criticizes Hip Hop acts for jumping on the electropop bandwagon.

This is what she had to say on Twitter:

“How y’all gone stand by and let our music turn into pop techno cornball ass music?”

We don’t own our music no more. Come to think of it , did we EVER own it? Where is the funk AT? They playd 6 in a row today – pop techno songs back to back. With so called R&B and rap artist on the Hip Hop station.

Where [have] I been? I wanna hear from the young people. [It's] easy for me to complain about this techno-pop cause I have a taste for something else. But how do YOU feel?

I definitely don’t want to offend anyone. Young people, I know this is the music of your generation. These rappers ought to be ashamed of their damn selves. I’m talking about the mc’ s rappin over this pop techno music. I believe in pimpin the system [but] got DAMN! Not like this!”

#pop-technosongs. I like the idea of no distinction in race when it comes 2 music, but SOULkeepers, U dont give up the boom bip and the hump 4 the payday. I love house and techno as a side dish .

But now it’s served as the main course AND that’s ALL u gone get. like chittlins in the back house. I love music PERIOD. just not ready to say goodbye to the boom bip and the hump .. kinda painful for my generation to see. just strange 2me.

Yes, no1 wants 2B poor again. artist have2 sacrifice integrity of the music sometimes 2 make ends meet. this is understood.but gotDAMN now. if you’ve never tasted good p*ssy your satisfied with *ss hole. (that’s terrible ain’t it .) lol

MEMO: Like the case of The Funk itself, Electro & Techno were also invented by black folks.

Just saying.

BINGO!

I think she's in a position to change the situation herself, if she could. She's a respectable artist who has people's attention, but its hard to maintain that attention when you release an album every couple of Sun years.

Talking is for the birds, do something instead, Ms.Wright.

It's true though. Everybody gone techno for the moment.

I assume she is talking about will.i.am's other productions that won't leave rotation either.

Monica didn't want to do that style, and released a great album this year, but it's not on the radio next to all these other techno songs. Neither are Badu's.

I think the listeners are just looking for fun dance songs from these R&B/hiphop acts, not necessarily techno. Synths and drum machines are so in vogue which set to high tempo sound like techno! I don't think a fun dance song needs to be arranged with those sounds though.

Here's Monica recording a hot unreleased uptempo that sounds like 777-9311

I don't think she throwing house music under the bus, she's throwing hip-hop under the bus.

Erykah's too old to listen to the damn radio and expect different. What is she now? 36/37?

Mainstream radio is for children. Like Timmy said, Lil Wayne reduces your credibility anyway Erykah. That fact mutes anything she's really got to say. To be taken seriously, It always helps if the grammar is correct too.

She's damn near 40. lol She turns 40 next year actually.

I've noticed most celebrities who have a Twitter usually are the ones who misspell a lot. Twitter, I'm convinced, makes you lose brain cells.

I agree with her (sort of).

Why all the cheesy synths on everything?

It worked, briefly,on Usher's Love in this Club.

Partly because it was a fun idea and ,well, the song's about being in a club.

I was soon over it...

I wouldn't go that far. But I'm sorry to say that Erykah Badu is THE black female Ulrika Jonsson.

I know it was a joke! but I assume one day when Mexicans become the majority we're gonna hear alot more tejano music and shit with accordions and whatnot. I'd prefer salsa & merengue over that TBH.

More Off-Topic: Whatever happened to that huge Reggaeton movement, anyway (not that I like it; every song had the SAME DAMN BEAT!!)?

Back On Topic: Only time I listen to the radio is for oldies music. And I'm 23.

Honey, stop talking and just create the music.

They all just want to get their music on the dance floors, something the DJ can mix into their set, and have Ellen DeGeneres get the housewives out of their seats at her show.

Erykah and Lauren Hill should get their own talk show... their crowd is more Lilith Fair anyway. She had 2 million hits for "Window Seat" and it wasn't because of the music.
