NIN: Pretty Hate Machine Reissue

October 25, 2010

Nine Inch Nails are set to reissue their 1989 debut album Pretty Hate Machine.

Frontman Trent Reznor revealed that he and sound engineer Tom Baker have remastered the album to make for "a greatly improved sonic experience".

"I went in the studio with Tom Baker and remastered it for a greatly improved sonic experience," Reznor said on Nin.com. "In addition, Rob [Sheridan] reinterpreted Gary Talpas' original cover to make for a fresh new package."

The reissue is released on November 22 and also includes a bonus song, a cover of Queen's 'Get Down, Make Love', which featured on their 1990 single 'Sin'.

"It's been an interesting trip watching the fate of this record float from one set of hands to another, a long and depressing story," the frontman explained. "But it's finally wound up in friendly territory, allowing us to polish it up a bit and present it to you now. We had fun revisiting this old friend, hope you enjoy."

The track listing for Pretty Hate Machine is as follows:

'Head Like A Hole'
'Terrible Lie'
'Down In It'
'Sanctified'
'Something I Can Never Have'
'Kinda I Want To'
'Sin'
'That's What I Get'
'The Only Time'
'Ringfinger'
'Get Down, Make Love'

IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME=0

How funny, i started jamming to them again, and wanted to make a thread about NIN so thank ya biggrin

Pretty Hate Machine s an absolute classic, it is my personal favorite NIN album. It's so raw, full of emotion and different for it's time, even for know. The great opening track ''Head like a hole'' is a great sonic blast of anger and angst, Terrible lie is a slower tune with some great keyboards and drums. Down In It has a strange keyboard rift that i love with great lyrics and a video to boot!

Other gems Something i can never have is a haunting slow piano ballad one of the best Trent ever composed. I love the insane video for Sin & the song itself is in my top 10 NIN song's it sound's so weird and out there, and the lyrics are dark and reflective.

Ringfinger is a great funky little closer to

But all in all a masterpiece glad it is being reissued cool

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

It's already been re-issued numerous times and supposedly remastered as well. However, I'll admit that I'm more interested because Trent and his peops were involved this time. I won't buy it again unless it's released on vinyl, though. That's the only way I've ever owned this.

The Sin, Head Like A Hole and Down In It remixes. I'd love to have those remastered, too.

It's the first time Reznor's been able to oversee the remastering, the label that bought TVT out did a remaster job, but that was mostly just to get the CD out there and clean it up a bit. This is one of those things he was too busy with NIN recording and touring to get around to working on. The good thing is NIN does put vinyl versions out so you'll likely get your wish.

They haven't said if there's different special editions being released, remixes, or videos. But I think he's going to have a lot planned with the back catalog over the next decade, but still work on the new stuff.... I mean, he fit this in between the "Social Network" soundtrack and the recent How to Destroy Angels.

I knew there was a reason why I waited to replace my vinyl copy. Hard to believe this album came out when I was in college in the 80s. eek

I'd be more excited if it was a double disk with the Purest Feeling tracks and other bonus material.
