Berry Gordy mostly promoted a few acts like The Supremes (or rather Diana You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. And he promoted the Supremes more so than the acts that did eventually get to the top (Marvin and Stevie and the Four Tops later struck out on their own while the Temptations and Miracles slowly fell apart). Berry Gordy to me abused his powers in Motown and I partially blame him for the way Motown is portrayed in the media. I really do. | |
