Motown's Marv Johnson - I'll Pick a Rose for My Rose

About ten years after releasing Motown's first single (under its Tamla label), "Come to Me".

Berry Gordy mostly promoted a few acts like The Supremes (or rather Diana lol ), The Temptations, The Miracles, Marvin, Stevie, & The Four Tops. But he seemed to ignore most of the others.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

And he promoted the Supremes more so than the acts that did eventually get to the top (Marvin and Stevie and the Four Tops later struck out on their own while the Temptations and Miracles slowly fell apart). Berry Gordy to me abused his powers in Motown and I partially blame him for the way Motown is portrayed in the media. I really do. lol
