Elton John & Leon Russell "The union" Best Album of the YEar

Though the grammies have past their nominations stage, the single for this album will most likely get a nod, and this is one of the best records Elton Has done career wise, despite his deeper soulful voice now as opposed to the high vocals of the 70's, Elton seems totally on point here and production wise T BONE BURNETT is the best in the fucking biz, hands down, dont even wanna hear about no Timbalame or shit like that used with the word Producer. As for Leon Russell, he sounds great, i dont know much of him besides the fact that Elton has idolized him since coming up in the later 60's 70's, but i dont know much of Leons work to have had an opinion on him and i was actually worried that i would be putting this album away quick, but instead im listening non freaking stop.

The Gap Band started out as Leon's backing musicians in the early 1970s. Leon also wrote This Masquerade, made famous by George Benson. I have this 1974 album:

That's Charlie Wilson on the far left with a spear, then Robert and Ronnie. Leon is in the pot. The rest are other members of The Gap Band at the time, including the long bearded guy on the right, whose name is Tommy Lokey. The women are background singers.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I love Leon Russell! He wrote some great songs. I had this on LP and it took me forever to find it on CD:

eek

Didn't know him but those two songs seem look like Elton's and Billy Joel's originals respectively, only written before.

I'll have to check him out.

Totally agree. Its the best album I've heard this year. In fact I'd go as far to say its the best album I've heard for a long time. Elton has really outdone himself with this gem and only his 70's output can compare. Credit to T-BONE for creating the perfect vibe but hats off to Taupin/John/Russell for writing some of the most beautifully crafted songs you're likely to hear.
