"I'm Every Woman" better version... Whitney or Chaka?
Personally, I think Whitney took a hot song and made it even hotter mainly because of the vocals and the dance-like production... but that's just me. What y'all say?

Unlike "I Will Always Love You", Nippy did not bring anything new to the table with her cover of "I'm Every Woman". While it's always nice to hear someone attempt a Chaka Khan song, I must agree with what Anita Baker once said on her decision not to cover "Smokin' Room", once Chaka Khan has touched a song, there's nothing else you can do with it. Seriously though Whitney's version was okay (I loved the intro, that was the only new part to the song) but that (and the movie) were just okay... I watched that strictly because I was into Kevin Costner's films at the time lol

Chaka overall, of course. But the soulful intro on Whitney's version is nice, particularly on live versions like this one with Whitney and Chaka, where they really 'lean into it' and build up the anticipation before going into the song. There likely wouldn't be a Whitney cover of I'm Every Woman without a Chaka original. However, when I choose to listen to the song, I normally go for Whitney's version. [Edited 10/6/10 3:13am]

Chaka's version, overall. That being said, the house mixes of Whitney's version, are off the chain... "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

No doubt Whitney did an excellent job of it...but hands down Chaka's version is the best. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Any version of any song by any artist is better than a version by Shitney. Hell, even the old ass original version of "The Star Spangled Banner" from the 1700s or 1800s is better than hers. Andy is a four letter word.

Not even up for debate. Chaka shits all over Whitney's version.

those backgrounds, the overall production - CHAKA! ... no contest.
But Whitney's version is an homage and I always appreciate that.
